investigation by DOE

LSU will be fine. You won't find a more incompetent group of people. It'll probably take 4 years for them to conduct this investigation.

An LSU spokesman said Friday that he was not immediately aware of the investigation, but that he would look into it.

That's how you know this is all bullshite.

If you're sexually assaulted, you go to the cops and file a report.

You may seek counsel with or talk to an authoritative figure at the school, but if the sex assault is PROVEN legitimate by the cops, there would be no need to go the university route.

So the Dept of Education can investigate? Oh that's what we need another government agency with police powers. Guess the the Dept of Energy and Dept of HHS will have police powers next.

This a reporting issue through the Clery act. Think of it as UCR summary reporting for DOE. This is going to result in a hand slapping.

Sounds like to me the problem is the LSU Police Department
Do you even really need LSU PD
Let BR City Police or EBR Sheriff's handle these complaints

Universities and especially athletic departments are not equipped to be investigating crimes. They should be acting based on investigations from actual police. That is not to try and absolve LSU admin from failing to act correctly (if indeed they did as has been accused). But there is clearly merit to discussing whether or not this Title IX investigation system on college campuses is setup to fail.

The concern for victims of sexual assault at LSU in this thread is heartwarming.
And Ripley's deeply thought out conclusion that real sexual assault victims ONLY report to the police is very helpful.

Next time I give a Sexual Assault Awareness Speech on a college campus I will make sure I let the students know this.

Too bad I didn't find this out sooner I would have included it me book.

I am all for justice for the victims in this case. I was addressing the nature of the article. The DOE requires every University that receives federal funding to report clery data. The investigation is concerning the reporting of the data. The Police department collects the data( most current Police records system tracks clergy data). They submit to the DOE every year. There will be some made up shite more than likely. My bet is they throw their records software vendor under a big arse bus.
