Oh good. I was too mad for my sarcasm meter to work.

How many fired LSU staff members has Jill Craft represented now? Seems like a lot
This is part of the problem. LSU fires an employee and the employee sues LSU. That is why it is so hard to get fired at LSU.

I don't get this part through:
As someone that works in higher ed, it seems really weird to refuse to share your budget within your department.

“Starting in the fall of the last school year, there was an effort on part of administrators in the School of Music to get their hands on the budget for the Golden Band from Tigerland,” Craft said. “Rightfully so, my client refused to allow that to happen"

Tiger Band is more financially associated with the Athletic Department (independent from the school) than the School of Music though. It's mostly about scholarships - SOM thinks that scholarship money should go to other musicians and not the non-musician dancers.
ETA: There are music scholarships as part of Tiger Band.

The band gets funds from the Athletic Dept because it contributes to the Athletic Dept. The School of Music does not.
It's really not that complicated

The funny thing about that post rustling people is a lot of people in the band have terrible attitudes and would rather not play or be in the band and have LSU pipe in music all game.

My scholarship from tigerband came from the athletic department. We were separate from the SOM and for good reason considering nothing we ever did had any actual relevance to them. All of our events were for football games or school spirit (fall fest, etc) which ultimately tied into our traditions re: football and such. The tigerband plays a very integral and iconic part in both the history of LSU and LSU football, and any fan worth a damn knows this.
The SOM always had a nasty attitude towards us TB members. Many snide remarks in my flute lessons (I was a performance minor) essentially to imply I would be much better or have more practice time if I gave up my ridiculous "hobby" of TB. I always popped back with the fact that I would've attended Oklahoma City Uni or a more serious music school if not for tigerband. And flute performance majors were only allowed to do one year of tigerband and even then It was looked down upon.
Anyway, long rant to wrap up the point that the SOM is causing this problem due to their jealousy and peen envy.

The statement that was released from LSU implies there may have been some nefarious activities going on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the new dean fire several business department employees without cause or warning, just to bring in his own people, right before 15-16 began? And now, lo and behold, "we've found improprieties?" Could the fix be more in?
Higher education management is so transparently corrupt it's shocking, even on the academic side. ESPECIALLY on the academic side. It'll shake your faith in the purpose of college. The game is rigged. Administrators bring in their yes men and hire them as deans, and the deans run their school like a fiefdom where dissent is never tolerated.
I know from personal experience and that's why I'm not in higher ed anymore. I once worked in a department where the dean told the department head to change her tenure policy on publications. She said no because she preferred teachers in her department and the ones who spent the year publishing articles and going to conventions couldn't teach their way out of a wet paper bag (and we were a low-stakes, non-scientific department with no grad assistants to teach classes). So since she couldn't be fired, the dean gave one-year termination notices to EVERY tenure-track professor in the department, and he gave another tenured professor a new title and half the duties the department head used to have.
And there ain't a goddamn thing anyone can do about it.

Not because of Roy. It's because the administration folds to anything PC and has stifled the band and the tradition of Tiger Stadium because the students might chant something vulgar that offends someone. Who Cares!! Bring back the greatest atmosphere in all of sports and let The Golden Band play!!!!

He hasn't exactly helped. Our halftime shows have grown extremely stale. The song selections are pitiful.

WTF? Why are they in the band then? Way too much work for someone that doesn't want to be there.

Boat is exaggerating on the amount of people that act that way, but there are definitely a few. I'm sure there are some people like that no matter what organization/team you're on.

Again, Roy is the least qualified band director in the SEC. The only 'qualification' he has is that he is an LSU and Tiger Band alumnus. This has shown on the field.
I did not like Linda Moorhouse personally, but she was damn good at what she did.
