LSU Summer Baseball Camp

Anyone done it with their kids? My kindergartener loves baseball. Did tball last summer and coach pitch last fall. About to have his spring season.
Did y’all enjoy it? I think he’d like it and with working remotely I can just work out of my folks place while he goes to the camp.

Skips camps were the goat. Having Beetle Bailey berate 11 year olds into crying was a yearly tradition.

We know a poster here who will hit your kids with line drives for free

Doubt he could do that on cue anymore. Maybe a golf ball.

Your kindergartner did t-ball and coach pitch?

What are you confused about?

Well I guess he wasn’t technically kindergarten last summer for tball. The fall was coach pitch.

It’s cool if he wants to experience a camp on lsu field and facilities
For better camp results traction is much better with hands on instruction
Both camps are very hot and with a kid that young I would start off with a half day camp

Thanks. We’re from Houston so the main thing I was looking at is the lsu camp since (as opposed to something local in BR). I’m an alumni and I have a place to crash over behind Louis
He just loves baseball so figured it be a cool thing for him to experience.
We’re definitely not looking at the travel ball route yet. If he keeps improving and loving the game maybe we’ll go there in 2-3 years.

I had fun at Skip's camp in 1987. Except when some dude stepped on my hand with a metal cleat.

Late 1980's camp veteran checking in. I had old beetle Bailey and Mike Bianco for instructors back in the day. Had a blast and those college girls back when I was a young teen
Great Memories

I went to Skip's camp when I was a kid for about 5-6 years. Always had a blast, especially once I was a teenager. Beetle Bailey analyzed our swings. A bunch of college players, probably 5-6 LSu players, were coaches in addition to a bunch of mid-major and DII coaches. And then there was the running sessions with Boots Garland, priceless
Not sure who runs it now. Dan Canevari ran it back then, and Skip just showed up for a speech during one of the lunch breaks and to take pictures. Jeremy Witten was my coach the last year I went, really cool guy.
I wouldn't say the instruction was awesome, but it was a lot of fun for a kid.

My son has done camps a couple different years and loved it. His highlight was racing Antoine. I’ll second the heat comment

From a purely technichal/coaching perspective there are probably better ways to spend time/money. It's more the experience of doing it at the box with lsu coaches and players that makes it what it is. I had a blast as a goofy unathletic kid back in the day but I was a huge tiger baseball fan. I'd probably recommend it for more around 10+, but that's just going from memory.

My triplets Jayden, Braden, and Slayden enjoyed camp.

5 to 6 year old is a little young to enjoy it to be honest.
Mine is as passionate about baseball as you will find, currently on a majors level travel team, and loves LSU baseball.
He however despises large Camp type experiences. Gets bored standing around waiting his turn, listening to "coaches" talk for 15 minutes, and typically gets very little technical instructions.
We have taken him to 3 camps and the only one he liked was put on by Cole Freeman in Mandeville.
The instructors were were Duplantis, Cole, Jake Mangum, Josh Smith, and Kramer. There were only 30-40 kids at the camp, so there was very little standing around waiting your turn. The group of coaches really cut up with the boys and had fun while giving them pointers.
As your boy gets older and likes to watch LSU baseball games for more than 15-20 minute segments he will enjoy the novelty of it more. Right now I'd advise against it and in the future look for smaller more interactive camps.

I actually used to work these camps during the summer and it really depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for somewhere to send him to for a few days where he'll have fun and be out of your hair then its perfect.
If you're looking for somewhere for him to get lots of instruction and work on mechanics probably best to save your money and get him some lessons will Tom Bernhardt or another coach.

Word of advice, as he gets older, send him to the baseball camp with the coach where he will tryout for High School. Recognition can go a long way when there's 30+ kids trying out.

Went when I was a kid probably 12 years ago. As far as I can remember it was very little technical coaching. For the most part we would just divide up into teams and played wiffle ball games in Alex Box and on U High's field.

That was my grandsons experience about 6 years ago, also. I went across the street and got in a round of golf after seeing it was more like day camp.
