Beth needs to be a more aggressive recruiter. Stop giving positions to players and make them earned. Be more demanding. A little more fire to her steady demeanor.

357. You think she's been told she's coming back or not told anything yet?

She is the coach next year baring something else happens. Allegedly Torina is on the list for A&M's coaching candidate. How serious that is, not sure. I assumed A&M would swing for the fence more. I could see them targeting the Clemson or Duke coach. Maybe go after a top assistant (Rocha at OU, who I don't think would take it unless the money was that good). They supposedly reached out to the FSU coach, although many over there feel like she is staying.

Some of their boosters want to go after the Arkansas coach although not sure how their AD is operating.

Well I don't think she will be hired away and I don't think she is looking for another job. Based on what you said SW is apparently leaving the softball program alone. I appreciate your reply. Thanks.

I read this thread, then realized halfway through that I am not that passionate about NCAA Softball.

Y’all can have this debate. I like to cheer for LSU Softball when we get to the Supers. Hopefully we get back there soon.

357, until today, I'm still up in BCS a couple of days per week and there's still a lot of Aggies talking about Tim Walton wanting the job... don't know how true that is, but the talk is there and hot.

If SW pulls the plug on Beth Torina, when would it likely happen? After the WCWS perhaps. I am thinking/wondering if my choice, Tim Walton, can be bought and pried away from Florida.

Beth is going nowhere right now. She will return next season and likely with her staff intact. If no discernible progress next season, she’s gone.

And enough time has passed since getting bounced out of the regional with no announcement. It’s obvious she’s going to sink or swim with Leftwich and Dobson.

I heard that as well. I’m curious how sincere that is but they would have to open the check book to get him to leave a program like Florida. As we all know money talks but it isn’t everything, there’s a lot to do to turn that program around. Evans left issues that is going to take time to fix.

He’s not “leaving it alone” so much as he has gone into evaluation mode.

As has been said repeatedly in this thread, 2023 will be the make or break year for Beth Torina continuing as LSU softball coach.

I personally think anything short of OKC next season means Woodward will sweep this present staff out the door.

Guess I will just have to prepare myself to settle with status quo for 2023

Looks like A&M went after Gajewski (OK ST Coach). A coach like that at this time of the year signing a big, long extension is typically a sign that another big time program made a hard run at them.

You're a flunking idiot! Probably not too far from the truth but still an idiot.

quote:

What happened when the real party started when 2 and three came.

Seeing how she has 2 girls the same age and then added another daughter a couple of years later, you're just making shite up proving that you're an idiot.

It's not as simple of an issue in that she is a mom and raising kids. Plenty of people do that while balancing a career, some better than others. I don't think it is a negative that she is raising kids but it can't be easy during the season and her focus is never 100% on softball.

I think, taking all that into consideration along with the fact that she has been here 10-12 years, the job has certainly become stale and she and her staff, I'm sure, have become complacent putting in same amount of work as they put in the year before and the year before that. It happens when you become complacent. Her nature and personality seem to be a soft, very motherly-like while could be effective has probably run it's course with the ceiling being hit several years back.

ETA: the first two girls are the same age and not twins

She didn't have twins. The oldest is adopted.

Corrected. Always assumed they were twins because they are the same age.

But we can acknowledge that something is not right and that there are questions to be answered and things to be addressed.

Has anyone gone and looked at the numbers regarding the decline of, what I perceive as, most of our hitters over their time at LSU?

I know opposing pitchers/coaches learn and adapt to a hitter, but it seems like our hitters aren’t making counter-adaptations.

It is interesting that you say that....because it is perception....and very little fact to back it up. While there are some perceived cases of girls having "regressed" it really is more of a one year aberration in their stats, rather than a downward trajectory, like Sunseri. Sunseri just had a great sophomore year, and that seems to be the outlier, not the norm as all the other years were pretty similar.

With most of the other starters you see constant improvement.

Briggs and Coffey both had better years this year than their freshman season.

Georgia Clark has steadily improved every year, batting 240 her freshman year, to 253 her sophomore year, to 301 this year, and each year has increased her homerun and RBI total.

Ali Newland and Morgan Cummins showed significant improvement this year over last year, as did Morgan Smith.

Other than Sunseri (who we already know what she is as a hitter) Taylor Pleasants was the only returning starter who didnt show significant offensive improvement, although she almost identically matched her homerun and RBI numbers (from her freshman all american season). If she wouldnt have started the season so slow (began the season 3 for 34), she would have shown improvement too.

Thats why I dont understand the issue people have with the LSU offensive side of the ball. LSU scored the 2nd most runs in the SEC this year, 2nd only to conference champ Arkansas.

In my opinion the defense and pitching let the team down this year, too many errors and Kilponen showed she couldn't carry a team. She might be a very good weekend starter but she can't carry a full load like some other pitchers have in the past.

Player 2021 B Avg 2022 B Avg

Coffey .226 .379
Briggs .339 .368
Pleasants .316 .295
Clark .252 .301
Sunseri .234 .267

Explain to me the year over year regression that everybody talks about?

So that means she started and ended the season in a slump and was on fire in between. Does that mean the coaches were great for most of the season, but then forgot how to coach again at the end of the year?
