Last year's team was destined for Oklahoma City until Taylor Pleasants and Karli Petty combined to hit .143 in SEC play.

Losing Coffey hurt, losing all offensive production from your middle infield hurts more.

There is a reason Dobson is gone.....
Guidry throws the softest on the team and led the team in ERA this fall....
Any surprises or updates on position battles?
Yes do you watch?

After today's uneventful 0 for 3, Taylor is hitting .151 in SEC with a grand Total of 3 RBIs

3!

She should be in the lineup because of her defense but she is terrible at the plate.
But how long can you keep writing Taylor Pleasants name in the 3 hole......

She has been the worst hitter on the team in SEC play, she should be batting ninth.
The throw home in the 6th was not Maci's fault, it bounced to her. But the one to end the game was definitely her fault.
Absolutely, that was a disastrous coaching decision, Beth is an idiot for doing that. With a 4 run lead, you get an out wherever you can. If we would have just thrown to first we would have only given up 3 runs that inning and win the game. Horrible coaching.
Coach Torina has led the softball program to the World Series 4 times in her 11 year career, not counting Covid year when the season got cancelled. That is 36% of the time.

More than one-third but not quite half.

Are you saying that she is doing exactly what she should be doing?

Only Alea Johnson, freshman pitcher last year transferred to Alabama

Alea Johnson to the portal?

Beth really needs to go shopping for another pitcher now....

Kayla Beaver to Alabama right after she pitched in a regional in Tuscaloosa? Looks awful suspicious to me....

Courtney Diefel at Arkansas has been the coach there for 8 years, has never been to the college World Series and got beat in her own regional this year.

Yeah she is WAY better than Beth

The lefty pitcher is a 2024 grad, she is not in this incoming recruiting class, we have to wait a year on her.

Moving Forward with Beth

Like it or not, Beth isn't going anywhere. Realistically there are only a handful of coaches in the country that are an upgrade over Beth, and most of them are not coming to Baton Rouge for any amount of money, their deals are too sweet already. I repeat, Patty Gasso will NOT come to LSU for any amount of money.

The real issue is getting the right talent in Tiger Park.

There are some holes to fill in the lineup, and the freshman class can fill some of them but we need to get in the portal to fill a few needs.

First of all, we need a legit pitcher to add to the mix. One of our big problems this year was that Ali Kilponen was not a Friday night starter and we had to rely on a freshman for that. The staff has a lot of potential but we don't have a stopper on the team. We should be throwing lots of NIL money at someone like Kayla Beaver from Central Arkansas or rumor has it that Maddie Penta from Auburn is soon to hit the portal. Maddie Penta would give us a World Series run opportunity.

As far as the lineup goes: Coffey, Briggs, Pleasants, Newland and Redoutey should be penciled in the lineup everyday. We need to hit the portal to find a thumping first baseman to add some pop, I suggest Bri Ellis from Auburn (over 1.000 OPS last year, 14 homeruns, 40+ rbi). We will get Hannah Carson back next year which will be a big upgrade and will allow Newland to go back to left field. The only holes left to fill are at DP and 2B. I like Karli Petty but she doesn't get the job done (.765 OPS is not good enough), maybe fill 2B and DP with another portal pick up or maybe one of our super freshmen coming in.

If you make those moves, everybody will be singing Beth Torina's praises next year.

Beth needed to thin the numbers down a little bit and all of the players that were in the portal from last year got very little playing time. Baylea Brandon was a nice young player but did not have a position here and went on to find more playing time.

Leftwich and Dobson are the hitting coaches, hitting wasn't the problem last year, pitching and defense was.

We have solidified the defense by bringing in the two transfers, and Bergeron will help too.

There are three star pitchers coming in this recruiting class too, so pitching depth will be helped tremendously.

Redoutey and Chaffin should make a good jump from Freshman to Sophomore year, plus all of last years Sophomores are older and more experienced.

This team is no longer young and inexperienced, its time for them to shine, it should be a good year.

Rumor is that Baylea Brandon will be going to Texas A&M

She also played first base for A&M, I think we could plug her in full time at first base and leave Georgia as the DP for the pitcher. It would be the best offensive lineup in the SEC.

Any word on the discussions with Haley Lee? That would be a huge bat to add to an already potent lineup.

Yes Edwards and Casanova are projects, and both are from Louisiana so are more than likely not costing the program any scholarship money to have on the team.

Low risk high reward if they turn into something.

Actually Arkansas is set for a major step backwards this coming year, 6 of their top 7 offensive players graduated this year, also one of their top 2 pitchers.

Rumor is Kristina Foreman has been on a visit to Baton Rouge.....stud.

Hit .400 for Duke last year with 15 homers, 2nd baseman.

That would be an enormous upgrade for our lineup.
