Batters need to stay put when batting instead of running forward as pitch coming. Ridiculous.

given how much the fans seem to support the sport (and judging by the revenues the sport produces, that support is low) I think the typical LSU fan doesn't care about softball one way or the other, so what would a reasonable expectation be for a sport the typical fan doesn't support on any level? Looking at what the softball program has done, it appears as if they've matched or even surpassed the commitment the school and fan base has put into the program

Oh, I get it now. When we interview a softball, swimming, track and field, golf, tennis, tiddly winks coach, the conversation is, just do what you can because the athletic dept. only cares about winning championships in football, baseball and basketball if we can. Man, what a pressure relief that is. Hell, we can hire the custodian for that.

Kind of a leap you made there.
LSU softball under its current coach has made the NCAAT every year. They have made the super regionals in 8 of her 13 years (excluding COVID) and she's made the WCWS 4 times. If you're talking about the school getting an ROI for an under-supported sport, yeah I think she's probably earned her keep for a sport that doesn't make any money for the university. The few die-hard softball fans that exist aren't going to move the needle to support firing a coach and sinking more money into a product that produces next to no revenue or actual value to the university.
I'm sorry if that hurts the feelings of some people on this board but it's reality.

I think that’s correct however they could force her to hire a pitching coach. It may be a blow to her ego initially but I believe it will allow her take the next step as a HC.

How much revenue does women’s basketball produce? We had no problem going after the big fish there…..if it’s all about revenue. And the ROI is only correct if that is what the expectation of the job is. If the product that is being put out is what is expected, then maybe we need newer than the new AD that we have. And don’t say that the new AD is killing it because the new hires haven’t accomplished anything yet….Im very hopeful that they do though.

2.6 million, so 5x more than softball. We shouldn't spend a bunch of money in that sport either if that's where you're going with this.

so we need to hire a new AD that prioritizes softball?
The only thing that really matters from his job is that football and basketball are doing well and making money. And at LSU, baseball as well. Everything else is lagniappe.

At this point
Who cares
LSU needs to prioritize other sports
Couple of in state coaches would crawl to lsu for cheaper then what Torina steals from lsu

LSU women's basketball, despite high attendance and popularity under coach Kim Mulkey, reported a loss of $7.9 million during the 2024-25 season, with expenditures reaching approximately $12.09 million. While in-game revenue is lower compared to major television-driven sports, the team saw significant growth in contributions and ticket sales recently.
Women’s basketball. Not sure what this year was.

yes womens basketball is a financial drain on the athletic department too

The Oklahoma Sooners softball program achieved a major financial milestone in FY2024, reporting $4.1 million in revenue, driven by a 37% surge related to the opening of Love's Field. Ticket sales alone exceeded $2.6 million, surpassing combined revenue for men’s and women’s basketball at the university.
Amazing what making an investment in a championship program earns.

Their expenses also exceeded 8 million, so they lost even more money than LSU softball did
There is no money to be made in womens sports at any level. The revenue will never surpass the expenses.

Much like any niche sport anywhere (aka not football or basketball). You can't expect a high level of support without winning at a high level
softball may have run out of time for this with NIL and the portal. Had they not screwed around so long prior to NIL/portal, they may have been successful enough to build significant support.that would have more enthusiastically carried over into this recent new era. Now they are just chasing their own tail stuck in slightly above average mediocrity, and the way college sports work now, that hole is much harder to crawl out of for niche sports
