Tennessee thought the same thing when Phillip Fulmer was fired. They had two bad hires coaching wise that has been a major problem for butch jones in his attempt to turn Tennessee around. Be careful what you wish for when you say fire les for the future of the program because I assure you our program is in good shape considering the nfl had ravaged us the past 2 years.

Some would argue that Tennessee's decline was due to letting fat Phil stick around too long after the game had passed him by as well.
I guess how you perceive these parallel scenarios determines whether you are a pumper or negatiger.
Personally I think Texas and Tennessee both went a few years too long with an aging, tenured coach who was living off of past glory and they let it go too far in damaging the program. I see LSU starting down this path.

Turned it around in a big way after 2008?? Wasn't our offense in 2009 ranked like 112th in the country? This season's offense has looked exactly like that one-insufferable to watch with a QB clone of that team.

Or maybe both Texas and Tennessee made the wrong decisions and weren't as smart as they thought they were

There is PLENTY of out-of-state competition. If I were a receiver or quarterback, LSU would be very low on my list of schools.

He's here three more seasons barring a total disaster or retirement, in my opinion. It may be a tough three years if a slow decline continues.
On the other hand, Les can really shake things up if the team makes the playoffs in '15 and/or '16.

he can make the playoffs imo, but the qb position has to drastically improve.

LSU has 6 or 7 WRs in the NFL right now. I think that might go into your decision making.

The SEC is much different than getting your arse beat repeatedly in the Big 12

That being said, there needs to be serious improvement to the QB position, and soon. Add to that the play calling and he needs to stop being so stubborn. Not saying he needs to be a pushover but for the good of the team, stop being so stubborn.
Not gonna happen.

How long will it be until the powers that be notice that Miles is starting the same trend.
Are you suggesting that Miles should go? Uh oh...

Why does everyone think a homerun hire has to be made?
Because we had 3 so-so hires in a row and it resulted in 76-70-2 - with relative parity in the SEC, particularly the West, 3 so-so hires in a row will result in a decade and a half of under .500 ball and seasons with 1 or 2 SEC wins.
That's why. That's also why you can't fire an 80% winning coach. 9 wins are still on the table for 2014 - let's see how it plays out.

exactly. Given what we've seen this season and based on Miles' stubborn behavior towards game plans, play calling, player's opportunities, why would a young talented player opt to come to LSU? I know LSU puts more players in the NFL than most other programs, but I don't think thats enough to convince a recruit to come here over other SEC schools. Especially since CLM has shown a propensity to stick with the run. And I'm sorry, but his inability to develop a QB doesn't lend much hope that this will change. So what does that tell the WR, TE? And if you're a lineman or Defensive player, why come to a program that appears to be headed downhill? And it is headed downhill, just as Tennessee and Texas has.

This board would lose its shite if the next coach LSU hires has a 28-21 record at a middle of the road program.

Soo... just playing devil's advocate here.
Mack Brown's 4 yrs after 1st national championship appearance (lost):
2010: 5-7 (2-6), not bowl eligible
2011: 8-5 (4-5), Won Holiday Bowl
2012: 9-4 (5-4), Won Alamo Bowl
2013: 8-5 (7-2), Lost Alamo Bowl
Les Miles' 4 yrs after 1st national championship appearance (won):
2008: 8-5 (3-5), Won Chick-fil-A Bowl
2009: 9-4 (5-3), Lost Cap One Bowl
2010: 11-2 (6-2), Won Cotton Bowl
2011: 13-1 (8-0), Lost BCS NC, SEC champs
Les Miles' 3 yrs after 2nd national championship appearance (lost):
2012: 10-3 (6-2), Lost Chick-fil-A Bowl
2013: 10-3 (5-3), Won Outback Bowl
2014: BEST CASE - 9-4 (4-4), Win mid-tier bowl
MIDDLE CASE - 8-5 (3-5), Win mid-tier bowl
WORST CASE - 7-6 (3-5), Lose mid to lower tier bowl
Miles is doing pretty well, when lined up with Mack's final years. One bad year and everyone heads for the hills... If I compared Miles' and Brown's recruiting classes over the same time period, it'd make you blush. Everyone just sit tight. We've expected this from before the season started.
