Baseball and basketball definitely don’t need this.

LSU gets $72 million per year from SEC tv deal. ND gets $50 million for its TV deal.

LSU baseball isn’t going to attract top talent t to play independent or Big 10. There are 3-4 SEC schools that would fire their coach tomorrow to get Jay. Jay isn’t sticking around if we aren’t in the SEC.

you almost have to be affiliated with a conference in the other sports.

Notre Dame is in the ACC in other sports and plays 5 ACC games in football every year.
plus Stanford, USC (that series is ending though) and Navy every year.

that’s 8 games and only really need to find 4 more.

LSU would need to have something similar in place somewhere.

it’s not going to be easy to find enough teams that have openings for non-conference games to fill the October and November portion of the schedule.

then you have to look at TV deals.
LSU by itself isn’t gonna draw huge ratings without having quality opponents.

LSU gets the TV ratings it does because of the size of the matchups.

LSU vs Alabama is great for ratings.

LSU vs La Tech?
not so much.

We could have great games with more diversity. I am tired of playing A$M and R Kansas every year.

Talk about getting the traditionalist riled up! I also remember LSU/Arkie and turkey, but i get your point and agree. I'd love to watch the Tigers line up against some fresh blood. Keep LSU/Gumps and bring back LSU/FL for out of conference too though.

We had the same thing with A&M before they joined the conference. 84, 85, and 86 and then playing three times from 97-98?

played them every year from ‘86 - ‘95
before that, every year from ‘60 - ‘75

GEAUX independent, schedule a moderate level schedule and walk into the playoffs healthy.

I feel the opposite about it now that we have a 24 team playoff. With that many teams the regular season is nearly worthless already and on top of that you want to play a weak boring arse schedule like ND?

Looking at our home schedule this year as a fan I don’t want to give that up. Playing big marquee games on Saturday nights is what we’re known for and why we have one of the most iconic atmospheres in sports.

With 24 teams you can now get in at 8-4 every year with our top 10 SoS. If we go 7-5 or worse then we don’t belong in the playoff anyway

I really hope the Big 10 is talking to LSU on back channels to join them...a huge frick you to Sankey and the SEC with their BS and the Big 10 gets to plant their flag in the heart of SEC territory...

oh well. we can keep football and basketball going strong if we left.

big 10 averages between 76 and 79 million per team(not counting oregon or UW due to bargaining deal for 40 million plus)off TV rights/deals. ohio state got as much as 91 million due to a playoff run. 81 million for indiana.

well we can forget the big 12.

each team there averages 31.7 million from TV rights. says they get 50 million total from conference with add ons.

SEC is the premier conference…

Really? How? Not basketball? Not football.
Only baseball and T&F.
Big 12 baseball is good, LSU with Arky and TAMU would boost football and T&F plus everything else.
This isn’t that hard to understand.

see above. that is the only conference where we can get MORE $$$ off TV rights than SEC or big 12. i have not looked up the ACC.
