Kind of surprised to see Michigan rated that high. Also, glad to see the coaches aren’t buying that Texas hype. They’re still too high though imo.

Preseason doesn’t matter. We’ll know all that we need to know about them after Week 2

I love how bama is ranked ahead of LSU, when they didn't even win their division last yr with the #1 and #3 pick in the draft. Yet they're supposed to beat an even better team this yr with an offense that's basically starting over?

Kinda surprised to see A&M ranked that low (25). They've got a lot of guys back, and that offense should be very good.

Now the Jimbo and Bobby show could derail the whole thing, but on paper they're better than 25.

Why? They’re the reigning back to back BIG10 champions and return their QB, both stud running backs, and will have another elite offensive line. Easy #2 in my opinion

They won't move until they play Ohio St either. They have the SOFTEST schedule

Did you miss them all season outside of the LSU game?

They are being generous ranking them at all.

Bama being third just really brings validity of the whole thing in question.

Years (since 2000) LSU has started ranked in the top 5 (coaches poll)

2004: Started (3); Finished regular season (12)
2007: Started (2); Finished regular season (2)
2011: Started (4); Finished regular season (1)
2012: Started (1); Finished regular season (7)
2020: Started (5); Finished regular season (NR)

In every year except 2003 if LSU played for a NC they started the season ranked no worse than 6th.

IMO, the top 5 rankings in 04, 12, and 20 were a little bit of a "benefit of the doubt" ranking following seasons where LSU played for a NC rather than wholly based upon objective criteria. 2007, 2011, and 2019 were a bit different. While LSU had good seasons in 2006, 2010, and 2018, the rankings in 07, 11, and 19 had more to do with what LSU was returning for those season rather than just credit for winning/playing for the NC the previous year. Given that LSU has not played for a NC since the 2019 season, this ranking signifies what many of us have thought before today...this is a national championship capable team and a national championship capable season.

Yeah they just get the Bama benefit of the doubt but on paper this looks like the weakest team in the Saban era.

Noles fans will be shocked. I’ve read where some of them say “we better take LSU seriously” like they will only lose if they don’t take us seriously.

Agree to disagree. As long as Johnson isn't starting, I'll stand by my belief that they're better than 25. Around 16 returning starters, Weigman is 1000 times better than Johnson. Stewart, Smith, and Achane are legit weapons. And while the defense was mediocre last season, they have 8 returning starters there as well. Like I said, on paper this is a 9-10 win team in my opinion. To me, it boils down to how much Fisher actually lets Petrino run the offense. If so, they'll potentially be tough to stop. If not, it'll be 5-7 again.

Haven’t seen Tulane ranked in preseason in decades. Maybe after their Shaun King undefeated season?

LSU playing in a top 10 game to start the year. No other games between top 25 teams the entire week 0-1 lineup. Can’t wait for that one!

They have been the most consistently great program over the last 15 years. If any other team based SOLELY on objective basis they probably wouldn't be ranked 3rd. However, begrudgingly, they have earned the benefit of the doubt. Which is what the No. 3 ranking shows. LSU was ranked No. 6 in 2008. No. 1 in 2012, and No. 5 in 2020...despite losing a ton of key players from the previous year's great team. LSU was given the benefit of the doubt then too.
