Do you really think it matters if JD runs a 4.5 or a 4.6? Because in no way would that be a determining factor on if a team picks him or not.

Exactly. I can't find the stat, but the returns/kick ratio has got to be one of the lowest in the country.

2/6 of those were against Grambling and Greg didn't have a single return from September 23rd until November 25th

It’s gonna suck so bad when we it is universally known that house screwed up a natty run, turned Speights slow motion, and almost destroyed perk. Gonna suck so bad.

That is what is so frustrating about Speights. He looks the part, but was just terrible on the field.

His flat out refusal to actually get dirty and tackle was evident, dude just likes to push people and stand there.

His coaches failed him.

That should shut some people up about Savion Jones' weight.

I mean Savion Jones is like 5-6” taller than Wingo…

Man, those are some really low bench numbers from Smith and Turner. Maybe their squat numbers are strong but to be an interior OL or DL that’s not good from an upper body standpoint. Basically benching 365-375.

What?!
Coaching failed him, I agree. Dude has the physical ability, and displayed it in a different system. He WANTS to make plays and perform. He could not integrate into House's system, at the position House was directly responsible for coaching up.

I mentioned it back in another thread, the loss of the DL coach wrecked this defense. House (and other coaches) tried to take up the slack with the line, and as a result neglected their primary responsibilities. He probably stuck Speights out there as starter, because he had skill and experience on the field, but didn't spend enough time getting him up to speed in the schemes. Thus, he was lost out there, getting by with what he had... "YOU, go play linebacker. Do what you did last year. Now, I'm going to go work with Maason Smith and the line".

Let's not forget, House was also responsible for half the special teams too. Coverage, lanes and whatnot.

Look at what we brought in- MORE defensive coaches than before, more than we had going into last season.
And special teams are now under the new TE coach, not pieced out to the DC. The new coaching lineup shows redundancy and more time to work with defenders, which clearly needs to be a priority.

You are correct not having a D line coach hurt the whole defense not just the line. Bringing in an old patriarch halfway into the season everything was way too far gone by then to turn it around. Mindset and confidence with consistency was lost.
That’s why it just floors me that Smith wouldn’t take another year under Bo and possibly get drafted in the first two rounds rather than where he will slide to now.

Because a fast 40 time would've likely HURT him. By not running the 40, JD keeps his true speed unknown and now they can only evaluate his throwing ability to play as a QB and not talk about moving him to WR or CB. Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson were outliers, not the norm.
