Dline is actually much less dynamic than oline.
The oline requires synergy/cohesion in a coordinated manner to a much deeper level than dline. You’re also working with a different type of player athletically.
Apples to oranges.
Now, that said, was removing Cregg a step in the proactive direction? Yes. But, it’s timing is too late. The oline requires a longer (and more involved) strategy. Os first order of business way back when should’ve been oline. The keystone to any elite program starts with the big uglies.

I’m sure that he recognizes it, the question is will he be able to do anything about it.

Good Lord. 9 recruits over 4 years!!
I know you need to recruit the best players in addition to position if need, and I know it’s MUCH easier said than done, but it would seem like you should recruit a starting 22 every year and then fill in the other 3 spots with a rb, wr, or db with an occasional specialist.
1 qb
1-2 rb
3-4 wr
4-5 OL (2 T’s, 2 G’s every year with a C mixed in)
1 TE
2-3 DT
2-3 DE
3-4 LB
2-3 CB
2-3 S
I know this is what every coach wants, but certain positions should have minimum numbers every year and 2 OL any year is unacceptable.

2020 - HS ranking
M. Dumervil - #6 OT
M. Martinez - #26 OT
C. Jackson - # 44 OT
X. Hill - #25 OG
Who is this? We only took Dumervil, Martinez and Hill in the recruiting class in 2020 and added Shanahan via transfer.
So by my count, we only took 2 OL in 2021 class, 3 OL + 1 transfer in 2020 class. We did take 5 OL in the 2019 class however 1 guy is already off the team (Parker), and 2 more seem destined to never be a contributor (Perry/Thomas).
just some abysmal OL recruiting.

I think that’s Camron Jackson. Can’t remember what happened there - may have been grades?

We've signed a bunch of highly rated guys (but not the elite-level prospects) and a bunch of 3-star project types that - at other places, they turn into reliable starters their 3rd year.
Lots of swings and misses.
We've signed enough numbers-wise.... but we're either not developing these guys or we're not bringing in guys with upside...
But we're not the only ones that have missed on these prospects. So did the rating services.
#2 OC Smith from 2018... Nope
#2 OG from 2019 Thomas... Nope. If he was he'd be an ALL SEC starter
#13 OG from 2019 Bradford... Nope. He'd be starting
#6 OT from 2020 Dumerville....Might be too early. This is his 2nd year. He should be pushing for playing time.
My point is, there's a lot of blame to go around here. But we've signed plenty of numbers.... just wayyy too many misses.

He never signed here, decommitted and ended up at Memphis. He couldnt make the grades to get in an SEC school.
He's a deep down the depth chart Defensive lineman there, not even playing offensive line. Had 4 snaps in 2020 and 8 so far in 3 games of 2021.

I don’t actually think it’s a talent evaluation issue. I think it’s bad recruiting. We swing for the biggest fish and stroke out often, then just end up taking the biggest available bodies in LA.
Well, I mean, we have to do that. Just because we strike out on those guys often doesn't mean we shouldn't put our name in the hat. Cregg was an awful recruiter even when cheating his arse off. Hopefully Davis is better.
The biggest problem is for whatever reason, this state never produces many great OL prospects. And the few we do produce we seem to also completely whiff on. Cam Robinson and Cedric Van Pran being the two most recent glaring examples. I'm sure I'm not remembering some recently as well.
But for whatever reason, this state produces NFL studs at every position except for the OL.

Bryan Lazare had a similar write up on MS site a few weeks ago.

We get all excited to be number 3 in recruiting when Alabama and aggies and others get 5 OL each year and studs at that. While we pull in one or two OL

Stuff like this is why you can't put much stock in past recruiting rankings...

my bad brother

I was using info from the ESPN website and it states that C. Jackson committed on 12/19/18, I overlooked that he signed elsewhere
Based on signing athletes, LSU would have the best 7 on 7 team in the country. Sadly the OL would finish damn near last in the country based on performance and development. Horrible recruiting classes compounded by attrition is what we are witnessing in Baton Rouge. I have a feeling it's gonna get worse next year. The transfer portal in 2022 may be the only answer to remedy this problem until we sign better OL

I agree 100% as it's all relative. Very top heavy in WR and ATH's, very few if any dominating studs in the trenches. We can only hope that Brad Davis is here long enough to make a difference and change the recruiting results.

Last year was his first season and he appeared in 1 game so he redshirted. He's already had playing time in all 3 games this season. WAY too early to tell how he will turn out.

This is a good summary by Got Blaze.
It indicates the best hope is that some of the 2020 and 2021 signees will improve significantly.
And the 2022 class pledged so far is a higher rated group, with a chance to add an OL or two.
But the future is uncertain.

Why isn’t this painfully obvious to our coaching staff? Or recruiting? I mean, I know O is incompetent but, most of us aren’t coaches and can clearly recognize this. Why can’t they?

We used to take DLineman and make them OLineman. Not happening as of late. Rosenthal and Hines are the last I can think of that were moved.
Heck, last switch we made was moving an OL to the DL! (Evans)
