Let’s be honest, our guards will be fine if we limit turnovers. The real question is do we have the bigs compete with the big boys on the glass? I like our bigs but they are young and we really don’t have that glass eating machine or rim protector.

What I’m hoping for:
1. Im hoping we use the non conference to work on our defense and establish a rotation, and win the ones you should
2. When SEC rolls around, or go with the oldest formulae in the book, protect your home court, and try and snipe a few on the road. At least this gives ya a punchers chance at the end of the year

As far as other sec teams, I watched a few, Arkansas loos descent but not scary, Bama looked ok but we know who they have back and we all know they are for real, now, Kentucky looked really good, pipe was a brilliant hire, the team that scared me so far was Auburn, those guys can light it up

Very similar talent to last year with a much harder schedule. Similar or worse record as last year likely

They’ll be playing a boring and meaningless sport. That’s their outlook.

Rebounding has really been a weakness - and a huge one - the last two years - that will have to improve for us to move forward and compete for a tournament birth. I'm not sure that we have the guys that will help enough there, but I've only seen one game so I'll reserve judgement.

I’ll be in Bramlage behind the LSU bench tonight. Hyped to finally watch a LSU event in person after a 10 year drought

It’s really too early to tell how this team will be, but I do like the tempo we play with and we’ll be an improved 3 point shooting team.

These next couple weeks will tell the story if we make the tournament or not. Last year we were good enough in SEC play to make the NCAA tournament, but too many non-conference losses cost us. K-State, Pitt, Wisconsin, FSU and SMU are huge games for us. Make it through non-conference with 2 losses instead of 5 and we are in great shape for a tourney bid.

Alt26 is currently proofreading his thesis on this and will post it shortly. I’ll give you a quick summary since it will be just like the rest of his posts. It will say on paper this team looks like it can be good, but.. then 2000 more words.

Since you rang...

The outside outlook on the program is basically non-existent. They are projected to finish near the bottom of the league and no one outside of about 10-15 people on this board are talking about them. They'll have to earn any attention they get. Otherwise, LSU basketball with just be an afterthought nationally.

Reasonable GOOD scenario is, like you said, they can win 3 of 5 of the major conf. OOC games (starting tonight). Do that, then a 9-9 record in SEC play would likely be good enough for a NCAA Tournament bid

Reasonable BAD scenario. This team may have better athleticism than prior groups, but they aren't necessarily "good" and have no one who is truly a go-to player. They have already lost their leading returning scorer (Ward). They struggle in OOC play, losing most of the major conf. games and get tripped up by a mid-major team to enter SEC play at something like 8-5. The SEC looks to be really strong. LSU gets a few at home, but can't win on the road...ending with a conference record of something like 6-12. That means a losing record overall and no postseason play.

Is that short enough for you? I know detailed discussions with facts/data supporting opinions can be difficult for some.

they are a +7 underdog tonight at Kansas State.

NIT are really expectations.

Very little excitement surrounding the program this year, very little fan support at games....

don't shoot the messenger.

I think Sears MUST be a reliable 3 point threat (currently 2-8 to start). He's short and doesn't seem to have the explosive athleticism to consistently score at the rim vs. the significant step up in the caliber of opponent from the OVC to SEC. Cam has done everything really well in the first two games...except protect the ball.

LSU has the size and length to compete. Reed, Fountain, Miller, Collins, are all 6'9+ plus with good length. More than anything though, rebounding is a mentality. Watch any good rebounding team and you will see relentless effort. They have the mindset that any loose ball is theirs and they will throw you out of the way to get it. Fountain is really the only "big" guy who consistently plays with that level of effort. Hopefully the others buy in.

I haven't seen McMahon give any sort of definite timeline.

I do know he missed a good bit of preseason camp. It seems like in the first two years LSU has had at least one guy with a preseason injury that may play a little in OOC play, but eventually gets shut down for the year. I suspect Boyde may be that guy this year.

At the last game McMahon said they were shooting for mid December to get him cleared.

The first quote is exactly what I’m talking about.

Based off two games here and how he’s played in the past it is very clear that Jordan Sears will be our go to guy this year. The 3s haven’t gone in so far but he’s proven to be a good 3 point shooter.

This has been my biggest complaint of the CMM era. He has known his teams are undermanned in both seasons but his teams don't do the effort things that can make up for a talent deficiency. You have dive after loose balls, play balls to the wall defense, crash the boards, etc. You have to make it miserable to play against you. Make the other team wish the game would end. We don't do those things.

I know you relate to the baseball team a lot better because the demographic makeup of the roster is 145% Caucasian, but it doesn't change the fact that in general, nobody other than a dozen or so schools GIVES A FLYING FLUCK about college baseball.

College basketball is firmly in and will never be bumped out of second place in revenue generation AND importance to football in regard to the college landscape. No matter how much you hope for it to not be.

Chris Stanfield, Luis Hernandez, Stevan Milam, Michael Braswell, David Hogg, and Anthony Eyanson are all offended by your comments. We have a very diverse roster for a college baseball team.

WAIT...

Is Jay a woke lib filling our team with DEI hires?

From watching the first two games rebounding and 3 point shooting concern me. Interested to see how we play against decent competition tonight.
