The band plays to a schedule that is worked out with the Florida band. Florida fans are too stupid to understand their own band and PA operator are part of this.

I kind of figure that Tom Petty didn’t really give two shits about sports, much less the Florida Gators football team.
When he was growing up, the Gators sucked at football. Petty was already a rock legend by the time the Gators became consistently good.

The Tom Petty bullshite is so hilarious to me. He had zero connection to the school, much less the football team, outside of growing up in Gainesville. I hope LSU ruins that cringe “tradition” every year.

Per my wife, former Tiger Band member, the director knows when the band is allowed/not allowed to play anything. That's why he's always wearing a headset throughout the game. Both bands are allowed and not allowed to play at specific times, mainly so they don't play over each other. If they were told not to play during any of the Tom Petty song, they would've been told to cut the music immediately.

So they should be honoring Tom Petty the groundskeeper, put his name on the stadium or some $hit, why bring up his songs that none of the coeds even know the words to. It was weird watching them sway to songs they never heard in their lives!
