Basically, LSU has managed 3 top ten rankings in a row because it has had 3 top ten defenses in a row. However, with offenses ranked in the bottom quartile, the result is no national championships, one BCS bowl loss and the Peach Bowl this year. To me, it is easy to understand the frustration of some. If LSU can field top ten defenses, why can't it field top 50 offenses or better? Imagine what could have been with decent offenses.

You can't compare run-first offenses on total yards to spread, hurry-up offenses. You have to compare yds/play and make it apples to apples. When LSU gets 65 snaps/game on offense because we huddle, run the ball, and keep the clock rolling, it is impossible for us to have more total yardage than Oregon, aTm, or any other little MAC team that runs spread with hurry-up and gets 85-90 snaps per game.

LSU didn't win last year on its defense alone, we hung 30+ on everyone except Bama. The offense was deadly in the red-zone. This year, new OL, new QB, no goto red-Zone WR hurt us in the same area.

Our fans get so enamoured with number stats that they miss the 10-ton gorilla sitting right there in front of them: Les Miles is the winningest coach in LSU history. He is on pace to have the most wins here. He has given up higher pay from his alma-mater to stay here long term. He recruits like a boss. He develops talent extremely well. He's nationally liked and recognized. He has our football program at an elite level. Lastly, for you Saban-lovers, he's the only CFB coach to beat him multiple times.

Miles isn't go anywhere, and our fans need to deal with it and enjoy our current success or go find another team to cheer for.

This is debatable. In atleast 5 years i cant think of a QB or reciever he developed. Defense has done great but offense I would not say great of even good.

Saban's boy's always see's that Bama gets cupcakes in the East. Next year they play Vandy & Ky. Who ever really makes up the SEC schedule every year sure takes care of the Gumps! Oh I forgot about A&M. I am very happy with the Tigers this year with our schedule & think next year we will have a great Offense.

You do realize that we got Kentucky and Tennessee in 2011 don't you? We also got Vandy and Tennessee in 2010. These cycles of east opponents comes around for us just like everyone else!

My god! When we stop this ridiculous whinning about our SEC schedule as compared to anyone else's! It only makes us sound more and more like cry babies who always blame someone else for our issues. Just like when we blame refs for a loss! Some of you amaze me.

You are missing the entire point. I'll try one more time.

Using your stats: Did any of these teams win a NC with 2 loses? Any of them?

No, they worked through the issues causing >1 loss and then won it.

Not only that most of those teams have not even won a NC during the entire period you selected the data for. For the most part you are comparing us to other teams who are in the same shape we are........ Those that did win changed their losing ways and moved to the next level.

We are a good team year in and year out but until we improve to the next level we will struggle to win another NC.

Calm down and consider what I'm saying vs screaming at your screen.

Who gives a shite? LSU did what they had to do to win a NC. Just like every other NC did.

We are a good team year in and year

frick that---we have been an elite team six of the last eight years.

You made a big deal out of LSU losing two games a year and Miles salary. My stats just showed you that every good to elite team has done the same and Miles pay is spot on with his elite success.

Wake up.

If you're a realistic college football fan, you need to be able to accept an average of two losses a year. You act like 2 losses a year is terrible. There are 3 (THREE!!!) teams this year with less than 2 losses.

You say we can't win championships averaging two losses a year. Well that is completely wrong. An average of 2 losses a year could give you 1 loss one year, and 3 losses the next. You can win a championship with one loss. What I'm trying to say is, while the Tigers under LSU may average 2 losses a year, that is about as good as you can realistically expect. Alabama's on a good couple of year runs, but that shite just doesn't happen often. Averaging 2 losses a year puts you in the hunt, sometimes they breaks will fall your way (like Bama this year and last, like us in 2007) and sometimes they won't (like us last year). That's just the way shite works.

ETA: Forgot about Oregon and K-State, so there are 5. Still, an extremely small number when you take into account all the BCS schools.

Is Miles an elite recruiter? YES.
Does Miles have elite integrity? YES.
Is Miles an elite coach? NO.

An elite coach sees something is wrong or not working right on his football team, and makes adjustments, or at the very least tries to make adjustments, no matter the cost.

Your QB/offense is *ANEMIC* in the NC championship against your rival, what was the attempt to correct it? Nothing.

Your passing game has been *ANEMIC* the past few years, what was the attempt to correct it? Nothing.

Putting aside the obvious rebuilding year in 2007 (something Miles didn't have to worry about in 2005) how many losses has Bama averaged since 2008?

Final score in the BCSNC game says differently.

I'll answer my own question: since Saban got the ball rolling at Bama:

LSU: 2.8 losses a season
Bama: 1.4 losses a season

Twice as many losses. I wonder where those extra losses are coming from these days?

Fabius,

I seem to recall, it was our 8th ranked defense that lost the Bama game this year. Also, the offense was the unit that was improveing toward the end of the year, while the defense regressed. But we all know Miles sucks and the Chief is great.

It's amusing how some have a want to put "aside" negative records/factors in order to push a certain agenda.

I bet Bobby Petrino wishes Arkansas would have put aside a certain motor bike ride it took as well.

How bout we put "aside" nothing and view a record as it stands.

No school in the SEC or in big time college football has more wins in the last 8 seasons than LSU.

Bitch bout the guy all you want, but his winning at that level drowns out all the bitching from the peanut gallery in my mind.

How is that amusing? It's blatantly obvious it was a rebuilding year...unless I missed other 6 loss seasons under Saban at Bama since then. Are you going to argue the flip side and say 2005 was a rebuilding year for Miles?

It'd be one thing if Bama had won the SEC and the NC in 2005 and went to a good bowl in 2006. Then I'd hold 2007 against Saban. But seeing as he came in, kicked a lot of players off the team, built his own system and has only averaged 1.4 losses a season since then..I think I'm stating the obvious.
