Russell Shepard had so much potential and what became ‘exercises in futility’, was continually put in situations to succeed. He just seemed to have a case of ‘the yips’ at LSU.
Dude went on to play in the NFL for 7 years or so. Glad it came together.

It was Miles/ Cam Cameron. And really more Cam, I don't think Miles gave a shite how big his WRs were, he'd had successful ones in all sizes.
Ironically, our best WRs in the Cam era were barely 6 feet, if that tall (Odell and Jarvis).

Brad Smalling.
I ran into him a couple of years ago at Walk On's in West Monroe.
Started talking football with him.............he was still bitter and all he did is blame LSU for all his failures.
He said he never got a chance and nothing was "his fault" .
My opinion changed on him.

The 1st idea we had for him was the best but instead we did anything else with him the rest of the time he was here.

Should’ve been our Percy Harvin but Miles didn’t think we needed anything other than smash mouth football so that role was never developed or expanded and Shep just became a down line WR.

Danielle Hunter while at LSU never really panned out. Fortunately, he blew up in the NFL and carved out a very nice career.

Shep was elusive with the ball but was not good at catching the ball in college.
I would have liked to have seen Shep running a RP O system at qb.
His NFL career was a really good special teamer because of his athletic ability and elusiveness with sporadic receiver play. He was a great locker room teammate.

He didn’t drop many passes and had some spectacular catches at LSU. Les was never gonna let him play QB but he did run a couple of read option plays and ran them well. It’s just a case of not using him correctly and never letting him settle into any one role but at 8 yards per touch he should’ve been used more often especially when you consider what his skill set could’ve added to the style of offense we played.

Although nothing about the last regime not being able to develop talent surprises me, I actually found myself browsing to see whatever happened to Javien Toviano (besides the legal stuff). Looked it up and he’s still not on a roster. Former top 50 recruit in the county and never really had a true position at LSU.
