comparing a coach’s buyout at the start of a 6 year deal vs 3 years left and saying “that’s a good deal” is wrong

Whatever dude. Not sure why you've resorted to personal insults.
Yea, shouldn't have gone there. You're a good poster on the recruiting board. I edited.

There is no doubt in my mind the timing of this announcement was to kick off this recruiting weekend. We've been hearing it was coming for months. You think the timing is just a coincidence?
Not at all. I agree 100% this was done for the purpose of creating some extra buzz this weekend. I'm just questioning the positive impact it has announcing it now vs. after the bowl game.

Sammy, you got the buyout information wrong when he signed it, and you still dont know shite about it. how do you say shite so matter of factly and be consistently wrong?

No way he should get more than what Mullen is making

Here’s where people freak out without knowing anything whatsoever about the length or terms of the contract.
We know his first one and it sucked...so why not assume this one will be worse?

Will be well-deserved once O has his team in the playoffs next season.

32 upvotes 83 downvotes.
All of yall wonder why some of us argue about his achievements. Everyone wants to say hes doing a good job and he turned the team around before the results are on the field and the second it looks like it might be harder to get rid of him if he doesnt get it done and the real opinions come out.

The three best coaches O will face on the regular are Mullen, Saban, and Fisher.
I believe since he has taken over as HC, he is 0-6 against them?
O just finished his 2nd full season as HC with LSU and has 7 total losses and his O-fer against all three of those guys.. and he's already receiving an extension?
He's also responsible for the Canada buyout.. I just can't understand how he's gotten this so quickly.
Next season was the perfect opportunity for him to actually earn an an extension, and Alleva just gifts him more. He's at his so called, "dream job" What on Earth is LSU doing here? These incredibly premature extensions can really burn you financially, but as others said.. might as well wait for the actual numbers to come out.

No it’s not when you’re determining how big of a buyout he has right now. LSU didn’t fire Orgeron when his buyout was larger so what it used to be is entirely irrelevant as of today’s date. You’re just crawfishing now that the numbers aren’t what you thought they were.

I’ll wait and see- hopefully it’s more of a symbolic extension. Head to head records with the top of the SEC coaches should put him under Mullen in terms of value
I’m expecting 7 years averaging 7mill

No
It’s 100% retarded to compare Os contract to a brand new contract when the buyout is most expensive.

No, it’s not. Buyouts are only relevant if you plan to fire someone. And all that’s relevant is what it costs to do so.

extensions are meaningless. Look if they fired Les Miles and his albatross deal, O will be easy to get rid of if this starts to tank

This. Exactly. There is virtually no downside to extending Orgeron right now, because there's almost no way he gets fired in the next two years anyway.

Thanks for being level-headed.
I hope you're right. I'm done melting until next season (if necessary.)
