I can't express enough how deserving Coach O is of this contract extension.

He came into the Head Coaching role with zero talent on the field OR the sidelines, a ruthless schedule, huge wins against SEC rivals, and turned LSU into a true recruiting powerhouse. Finishing 3rd in the SEC West each year is NOT an easy feat.

We are lucky to have him and wouldn't be surprised if the Alabama's & Ohio State's of the world come knocking to try and pull him away.

He should get one, I can't be the only one who feels better about LSU's situation, then at the end of the Les Miles tenure.

Sure is! Last year we lost Surtain was told O would not be around very much longer.

There is no guarantee if Orgeron were fired tomorrow we'd find a coach that would do better. Coaching hires are always a huge risk unless there's a Nick Saban looking for a job. There aren't any sure-thing coaches on the market right now that would actually leave their current jobs. Having to fire Orgeron would not be beneficial to our program. Sure, we could strike gold....or we could end up like Tennessee. Lot of risk involved there.

Me too. A ton less delay of games and better recruiting overall, especially with getting transfers when needed.

Orgeron is entering his 3rd full season, and deserves a 3-4 year extension. He is a much more proven head coach and deserves that type of contract.

I'm sorry, but this so premature an unnecessary.

There is no reason. He's not going any where.

Next year should be the ultimate test. Why not wait to let it play out??

The timing right before NSD is probably indicative of the reasoning

USC might want him back. They are struggling right now.

How many of these bad contracts has Alleva written since he has been at LSU? Hasn’t he learned anything concerning the contracts that he has written in the past? Who has Orgeron on their list of coaches they want to hire. If LSU has two bad seasons in a row, once again we will be paying out a settlement that is a buyout to get rid of Orgeron.

The post I was referring to stated that basically the entire concept of negative recruiting surrounding coaching contract extensions was a falsehood perpetrated by agents.

I replied that was not true, regardless of your opinion on O and whether he deserved an extension (I don't really believe he does, but it's not a big deal either way, assuming the buyout is not huge).

Recruiting. Coaches with a short contract duration get that used against them.

It's not going to hurt LSU whatsoever.

Most recruits committing to LSU are coming for the tradition and prestige. I just don't see negative recruiting honestly hurting LSU here whatsoever.

I am so sick of LSU handing out extensions prematurely, but what can you do?

Why not let the contract play itself out? Where is O going?

Next year is the perfect test. He has a favorable schedule and a very great team returning. Another 3 loss season would be awful and not warrant an extension IMO. I really expect a 2 loss or better season or bust.

Goodness LSU. Get your shite together. Have you not learned from buyouts.
