Yea, LSU just basically rewarded O with the contract extension he should have gotten *after* 2019, assuming he actually does something more significant than finish 3rd in the west with 17 returning starters.

Finishing #6 in the rankings with a NY6 bowl win will almost always result in a contract extension, regardless of the school. Can't believe some of you mouth breathers don't understand this.

This is not a very well thought out point. How would a 20 year contract make any difference to a four year player? Players want to know that the guys who recruited them, the guys with whom they have the relationships, the guys who promised them things will be there for the duration of the players' stays. A four year contract doesn't guarantee the coach won't die or move on for other opportunities, but it minimizes the biggest risk - that the coach will be fired.

Except the argument was that the extension (lengthening of the contract) was to help recruiting. IF the LENGTH of a coaches CONTRACT had ANY SIGNIFICANCE on WHERE these kids DECIDE to attend, then COACHES would have 20 YEAR CONTRACTS.

The point is, these kids know which coach is considered to be doing an adequate job in their position and which ones aren’t. They also know that just because a coach is currently under a 5 year contract, that doesn’t mean he won’t be fired. Most coaches that get fired have been under long contracts.

The argument of “you give extension because of recruiting” is just flat out false. You give contract extension to keep your coaches from being poached.

You are recruiting 4 years out against the best of the best - family needs to know that LSU is behind CEO right now not based on 2019 but based on 2022. You guys understand this - you are just farting in bed just because you can !!!

If a coach is winning, he is safe regardless of his contract length.

It absolutely is. This is why coaches are extended. Whether a coach deserves it may be arguable but the ADs logic in doing so isn'

No it’s not. The winning and losing records are used against them not the contract. No other program is telling these kids “Hey don’t go to LSU because Orgeron is going to fired because his contract is only 3 years”. They are telling them “hey don’t go to LSU because Orgeron is going to get fired BECAUSE HE’S NOT A GOOD COACH”.

Now before you start in on it, I’m not arguing if they are correct or incorrect about their assessment of Orgeron being a bad coach. That is irrelevant to this conversation.

It's a mistake.

Now if LSU had beaten A&M and finished in 2nd place the West your could make an argument for extending his contract, but as it stands he's done nothing above and beyond what was expected in his two full seasons as head coach.

If you don't know what the word hyperbole means I suggest you go learn it now. Your post is full of it.

No way he wrote that post with a straight face.

I really got a kick out of the last sentence.

You are in left field and Burrow is going to have you eating your words. Additionally, Aranda, Brady and the Assistant Ciaches seem to support program direction or they would not be there.

You are a dreamer. Thankfully, recruits, transfers, asst. coaching candidates and staff believe differently.

Yeah, because Alleva has a history of making such shrewd contract deals.
