A bit late for that. We waited until a week before signing day to extend him to avoid being negatively recruited? Sounds like something Alleva would think is a good idea.

Orgeron is entering his 3rd full season, and deserves a 3-4 year extension. He is a much more proven head coach and deserves that type of contract.
He deserves 6-7 years?

Hopefully this one ends better than Alleva's last extension to a football coach. Ironically, it also came after a 10-3 season.

I hope you're right, but I just can't see it being necessary right now.

What's the buyout?
This is what I'm waiting to get details on before worrying too much.

We’ve already signed 80% of our class.
They seemed to be ok with a 3 year contract

His buyout is already first cheap. If it dies then affect it much then it's nit an issue

Right, but a lot of wasted time between the end of the season and now. If this were recruiting motivated, wouldn't it have made more sense to announce this the week after the bowl game?

Compared to like Jimbo Fisher
Is his buyout even below average? Property much fully guaranteed beyond what? The last 2.5 mil?

Yeah the recruiting argument has always been a weak one. Either way I don’t care so long as he didn’t get a raise/increase in buyout.

Agreed, but I would be shocked if the extension didn't come with an increased buyout.

It makes almost zero sense. Who exactly, other than Alleva, would hire O as HC? We are negotiating against ourself.
Ludicrous.
Extend without a change in buyout or raise. OK No harm no foul. Anything else makes no sense.

No. The extension was announced today to build momentum for the final push before NSD. This is a massive recruiting weekend for us. Like it or not, the extension represents stability and the notion that Orgeron will be here long-term, which is important to recruits who are trying to decide where to spend the "next three to four years" of their lives.

His buyout is about a year of Jimnbo's salary right now. It drops to $6MM after the 2019 season, 4.5MM in 2020, and 1MM in 2021.

Very well earned.
How is 3 and 4 loss seasons well earned?
How? When he still has multiple years remaining on his first contract? I just don't get it.
That's great if you feel the program is getting better, but how about let him actually EARN in on the football field in the regular season?
I'm not sitting here trying to be "negative", but it feels sickening to do this now with next year being his 3rd full season here and 4th in the program.
O could go undefeated next season and he isn't going any where. He could also have another 3-4 loss season, which to me isn't well earned of an extension.

Good Job O. Very well deserved the program is definitely on the rise.

And Jimbo’s contract is the product of a school with limitless money hiring away a National Championship winnign Coach from a P5 school.
That’s the kinda contract you end up with as
That’s a freakish outlier. We can’t be like “well Jimbos’s buyout is...”

Saints get robbed , Pelicans tanking and now shrimp boat gettung a contract extension. The disappointment continues. Hope LSU basketball can get that win tonight.
