I take it you don’t like this??????
Just seems unnecessary. It's like he didn't learn from Les's buyout. I didn't like that one either in case you were wondering.

WTF has he done to deserve a raise? This administration and BOS is a joke.

He's not going anywhere else. There is zero demand for Ed Orgeron in the College Football coaching market
That's fine if you believe that. That's not how contracts work, however

People get so hung up on the buyout, EVERY COACH practically has one, it's just the nature of the business now. $10M is an irrelevant number because we'd never pay close to that, it's for literally the first month of his new deal.
Again, at the end of this season, the buyout is $7.5M, the end of 2020's season, it drops to $4.5M. These are really small numbers compared to the majority of Power 5 coaches.
Buyouts as of 4/1/19:
Gus Malzhan - $32.1M
Will Muschamp - $18.7M
Mark Stoops - $15.6M
Chad Morris - $12.5M
Jeremy Pruitt - $11.8M
O's proposed - $10.0M
Kevin Sumlin's buyout at Arizona is 10 million freaking dollars.

If he doesn't have LSU winning "binder promised" championships by 2021, why are we wanting to extend his contract today?
He has precious few big wins and some ugly arse losses. I don't get the appeal.
We fired Les for similar results sans losing to Troy at home.

Who’s pursuing O to warrant this buyout?

Tell us how contracts work, Lester.

You're not wrong about the admins and BOS being a joke, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with giving him a raise.
Top programs in the country will never have a lame duck coach, regardless of the direction of the program, and when they get an extension they get a raise. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Just the way it works in college football.

Les didn't a raise for winning the sec in 2011. He got an extension in 12, not a raise though.

If we paid him $1 million a year, would any program in the country be willing to pay him more than that? Why are we wasting so much money?

The proposed contract includes nearly $3 million in incentives, and it would bump his buyout to $10 million in the first year. The buyout would decrease by $250,000 each month until it decreased to a flat $4 million on Feb. 28, 2021.
Seems fair. The buyout isn't insane.

I just saw it and was about to post, the buy out is the worst part. And it will get passed unanimously. This athletic dept. is awful!

it's basically the same as it is now, only with a % increase based on the 2 years added to the contract. The people who will complain are only doing so because they want him fired now and this means he'll be here 2 more years
Posted on 3/18/19 at 1:32 pm to TabledTiger
For what he's been able to do on a $3.5m salary, sure bump him. I don't care about the dollar figure as much as I care about the term.
When they mentioned "extension" a few weeks ago, I cringed. Because Alleva doesn't know how to hand out extensions.
... but, 2 years I think is perfect. Thanks for doing your job, Alleva.

We give Ed a raise and extension for the season that got Miles canned.

Yep, this thread will show you who is reasonable and who isn't pretty quickly.

none of it really matters. Orgeron is extremely fireable if it comes to that point.
They add the years because it's used against you in recruiting if your coach is not locked up over the years the potential recruit will play for your school

Good post!
I'm as much against a raise/extension for O as anyone because he has no market outside of LSU. That said, these numbers are really just "fictions" unless LSU wants to fire O at the end of this season.
This contract means they aren't frirng Ed at the end of the 2019 season, regardless of the results. The contract was ALWAYS going to have some degree of a buyout. This one isn't significant unless you are concerned that O completely shits the bed this year
