And divide that by 80 semesters which is 40 years and it comes out to $1,974.72 per student per semester. The going rate for dorms today is ~$4,500/student/semester.
Still a bad expenditure once you factor in the time value of money.

Wait, where is the location?

That's a lot of money for a bed

Honest question, at this price why are the schools involved? $5,000/ semester for 4 students in a 4 bedroom apt is $40,000/ year or $3,300/ month for a 4 bedroom apt. You can get private equity to build and manage apts for much less than that, provide a very good bus service and everyone win.
Living in a ‘dorm’ for $5,000/ semester is laughably stupid amount to pay per student. The answer is ‘it’s a money maker’ which is again stupid, spend your time and money on improving the academics and let someone else worry about housing. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted but that’s just a stupid amount for a student to pay at most SEC schools

Tell us you have never stepped foot on campus, without telling us you have never stepped foot on campus. Dorm rooms are sold out, solid. We are putting students in roach motels. Enrollment can't grow any more unless there is a place to live. The revenues are not just dorm fees, the additional students will be paying tuition, parking fees and dorm and meal ticket. This will more than pay for itself.

Actually the opposite. The cost is fixed. Dorm fees will go up yearly for the next 50 years. It will be a cash cow within 10 years.

They’ll make that money back when these students graduate and join the workforce in state, right? Right?
They’ll make that money back when they raise tuition and students go into more debt on loans that you will subsidize with taxes.

I wonder if it will be covered in dryer vents like the ones on Nicholson drive - sewer pipes hanging from the stadium and dryer vents on the dorms- LSU is a shite show when it comes to architecture

It’s mostly just freshmen that have to live in dorms. But it’s due to LSU admitting more freshmen,
2023-7,400
2024- 7,800
2025, 8,200

maybe manage the incoming class first and then see how it shakes out.. we need to have academic requirements again. And manage the freshman size.. I can recall in the past lsu wanted to manage their size…. your academic ranking was tied to research.. upperclassmen.. grad studies..
It is clear the university is on a money grab and just want a freshmen pipe of money coming in.. they can all be taught by grad students or large classes and if the upperclassmen size stays smaller ( due to flunking out under qualified freshman ) you do not need as many higher paid professors for those classes

Is this the new dorm project that displaced Touchdown Village 2? That project also included a transportation hub to shuttle students to and from campus.

Good, I was forced to live in that prison shithole Kirby Smith. This is 25 years too late

Dude we still have Miller Hall. You have to grow and impress. Do you know what out of state tuition is? These kids need nice and competitive dorms.

I wonder how much of that $200M will eventually be NIL money.
Schools can't directly give money to students for NIL (different than revenue sharing), but they can pay for construction projects, and construction companies can donate to NIL.

Basic math of $200M / 1,266 total beds = $157,977.88 per...
And we wonder why college is overrated and unaffordable. It’s absurd. We need cinder block rooms and one bathroom per floor like the good days.
