When basketball is WINNING (Dale proved this, and Wade was in the process of doing the same), it is CLEARLY #2 at LSU.

And between 1978-1993 you could make a strong argument that basketball was king at LSU. A lot of posters here doubt this, but they weren't around to see it.

Basketball is king in Indiana, for example.

While this is true, I disagree with using this as an example. Auburn had less than 10 total NCAA appearances EVER prior to hiring Bruce Pearl. Nobody ever equated Auburn with basketball but now they have one of the best environments and programs in the country. Alabama and Tennessee have never even made a final 4. We’ve made 4 and are the only SEC school besides UK, Arky, and Florida to have made the final 4 multiple times.

We have produced the second most NBA players all time in the SEC behind Kentucky and are tied for second most SEC titles. These are the things that Will Wade saw in this program and he built upon it (LSU was literally the winningest basketball program in the conference while he was here). People can bitch as much as they want about him but he truly believed in the LSU basketball program more than 99% of posters here and we got rid of him. The fact that the admins are just letting the program rot away sucks.

He unfortunately won't. He needs to be fired tonight.

I wanna see McMahon succeed but the one glaring thing the administration seemingly overlooked was that he’s such a contrast to Wade personality wise.

Wade was a cult of personality. Pearsonality. Look at the end of the Trent and Jones eras. LSU basketball fans are fickle as frick and need that charismatic salesman like Dale or tPear. McMahon is very much a “i just coach basketball” kinda guy a la Trent. Nothing wrong with that at the right place but the head basketball coach of LSU will always need to have that charisma.

Say it neither as a compliment or a criticism, but if you aren’t a slimeball, you aren’t going to make it as a major college basketball coach.

We can’t even beat the patsys. What is going to happen when the SEC schedule gets here?

The contrast between Wade holding his intro press conference at the student union and firing up the crowd vs McMahon is incredible. You couldn’t have more polar opposites.

The Pear was awesome.

This is why I want Tasmin Mitchell as HC

Although I agree we should pull from Louisiana guys, Louisiana doesn't have as much of a talent pool for basketball as football (usually). The team we had that made the final 4 under Brady with 5 starters from Louisiana was special. Probably won't be replicated for a long time if not ever.

Tbh I don't have an issue recruiting out of state for basketball. It's what elite programs do. This isn't football. If the coach can't develop a good culture or control the locker room that's not an out of state problem it's a coaching problem

Yes and I agree with you 100%. All I'm saying is because we don't have a basketball culture here in Louisiana, the administration simply doesn't care as much as it should. Imo, Woody made Will Wade the fall guy for a lot of institutional problems, and he preferred killing the basketball program over tarnishing the school's reputation.

Don't agree with what he did at all, but he did it because in general Louisiana doesn't care about basketball the way we do about football.

That’s the moment he lost me. I knew he didn’t have what LSU Basketball needed.
