Obviously going to be much worse considering we started 12-0 last year.

But even if the Wade firing was inevitable you can’t go hire a guy like McMahon. There were plenty of up and comers who can actually do the job available but we chose the cheapest guy possible. If we were truly serious about basketball we’d have paid McMahon to leave last year and hired Beard. We’ll never get another chance to hire someone that age who’s that good again.

We’d have been better off keeping Wade and dealing with whatever the NCAA would do. Postseason ban? No problem McMahon won’t even sniff the tournament. How the frick did this guy even get hired here? Pathetic.

I'd argue culture. Depending on the state certain sports take precedent over others. Basketball is king in Indiana, for example.
Football is just more important culturally to the state of Louisiana than basketball. The Saints are more popular than the Pelicans. LSU Football is way more popular than Basketball.

Not sure that’s it though. I agree basketball is 3rd on the totem pole at LSU but if you just hired a basketball guy who could coach and recruit locally you’d be fine. Baylor, ATM and Houston are full of Louisiana players nobody else recruited. Houston has had 2 total 5* recruits in Sampson’s entire tenure but are 4th in wins nationally over the last few seasons.

Look Wade did some dumb shite, but at least the guy had the balls and it factor.
