Rosters are smaller in baseball. Less kids participate because of it. It’s really not that hard to digest. The patterns in both sports are very much alike.

The two sports are entirely different.

Rosters football around 105 baseball 35
Schollies football full only, baseball can be divided
Schollies football 85, baseball 27 players, 11.7 full schollies
I believe each baseball scholarship recipient has to get at least 25%, football 100% per athlete
Football really an NFL minor league
Baseball competed with MLB for talent.

Easier to pull a talent from oos when you give a full ride than pull a kid and give him half a ride or less.

La. a hot bed for football talent, not so for baseball talent.

as Ive noted.

They still use the same recruiting tactics in each sport. You will still find a similar percentage of players every year that are from in-state.

I feel like y'all dont even follow high school baseball in Louisiana.

For reference, I have for almost 25 years now pretty religiously. This is a really really good baseball state.

Yes.

The rosters and scholarships are set up differently in baseball, therefore there is more fluctuation each year with the limit.

But LA very much has really good high school baseball. And LSU very much makes sure to hit the state before branching out, especially with the way they can manipulate with TOPS.

We evaluate local first, and branch out to fill holes and then come back to fill out a class. Without oos talent we are not competitive. We have to get oos talent to compete in the SEC. Its been that way since we started winning.

Good baseball in a small state doesn’t make you a national contender. Talent has to come from all over.

SEC states with more major leaguers:
Texas
Florida
Alabama
Tenn
Missouri
Georgia
Kentucky
Fewer:
Miss.
Ark
SC

The way the sports are recruited is entirely different.
The need got oos talent is critical for each, however.

You don't think Eddie Smith has a proven track record as a hitting coach?

Never said he didn’t but we just don’t know how he will perform at LSU. What I do know is Paul kept hiring former players as hitting coach over and over again because they were good hitters in college. How many of those guys worked out? I can tell you none.

Having a recruiting coach that doesn’t coach isn’t good. I question Cain’s ability to evaluate regular talent too.

This is exactly why Mainieri should be busting his arse recruiting so we can pay 2 other coaches for hitting and pitching instead of having to pay a recruiting coordinator and settling for a “volunteer” hitting coach.

BREAKING: The @NCAA
D1 Council is expected to vote Wednesday on a measure that would allow schools to stack need-based/merit aid with athletic aid, but with only the athletic aid counting against the 11.7. This would be significant news for many college baseball programs.

Dan McDonnell at Louisville should be a top the list. He's had quite a run there.

Bakich at Michigan would be a top my list. What he has done with limited talent and the disadvantage of being a team from the north is nothing short of spectacular. I really wish they would have beaten Vandy last year. Their pitching was phenomenal but the bats just couldn’t keep up with Vandy.

So TOPS counts against the 11.7 but won’t in the future?
