When asked about the governor's directions to make the contract incentive based, Verge says he wasn't told that and that his job is to get the best candidate "no matter what that takes"
You can think you’re going to be the one to reset the coaching contracts market with something like this, but chances aren’t good. At least while also getting a quality hire.

A fricking injury attorney is the head of all this.

Biggest thing I took away from that is that Verge and major donors will be hiring the new football coach. Not the new coach’s actual boss, the AD.
What a mess.
What a mess.

ESPN right now is clowning LSU over all of this stuff.

"we want LSU football to be talked about on all channels". Ugh, if you haven't noticed we are being talked about everyone. For how fricking retarded we are with everything that's going on.
The answer to Cauble's question was terrible. "it was a join decision". God we're surrounded by morons.

As they should. It would be difficult to mismanage this any worse

Scotty Ballard. Ballard Brands. Tulane graduate. Covington. LSU fan and friend of the program with lots of family and friends deeply tied to LSU. . Kid at LSU now. One of the best people in the LSU orbit- never heard one single bad word about him and heard a LOT of good about him.

I just watched this twice and I have more questions than answers.
So the governor bitches about the high buyout for Kelly; Verge basically says money is not an issue with the new hire. That doesn't jive.
Also---the one dude says the governor had nothing to do with Woody getting shite-canned. I absolutely call bullshite on that.
So if the money to buy out Kelly isn't coming from public funds, and money is no issue in hiring a football coach, and Woodward has hired a bunch of other coaches who win and is generally doing a good job....WHY IN THE HELL WAS HE FIRED?
The ONLY reason is that he pissed off Landry and Landry is a vindictive little prick.

I’m seriously wondering if the TAF balking at paying Woodwards buyout.
What if TAF is tired of paying Woody's massive buyouts? How much of Kelly's $53 million is coming out of Woodward's pockets?

John Carmouche: destroyer of the Louisiana oil and gas industry, LSU board of supervisors.
Yep. Carmouche and his plaintiff lawyer buddies in Gumbo PAC helped John Bel get into office and then helped get Landry in over business friendly candidates like Waguespack.
Lo and behold he lands on LSU BoS and chairs the athletic committee, taking marching orders from the gov.
From his very brief BoS Bio (Bold font in original):
quote:
John H. Carmouche is the senior partner with the law firm of Talbot, Carmouche & Marcello. He has collected over 20 multi-million settlements on behalf of victims of corporate negligence. As the lead trial attorney, his fight against global oil companies to restore the coast of Louisiana has put Talbot, Carmouche & Marcello as one of the top plaintiffs' law firms in Louisiana.
John Carmouche is a native of Napoleonville, Louisiana, a husband, and a father of four children.John Carmouche has 29 years of civil trial experience and specializes in fighting corporations in discovery and trial. He recently obtained a $52,000,000 jury verdict against Shell Oil Company for polluting the soil and drinking water of property located in Cameron Parish.
The $745 million verdict against Chevron in Plaquemines didn't make his highlight reel, perhaps because it's on appeal.

What AD gets to hire 2 football coaches? You cost your donors 54 million dollars because the guy you hired didnt work out. you think he should keep his job over that? What about the basketball program that has been a complete failure? Those are the only 2 sports that generate money. No one really gives a shite about womens basketball and gymnastics and baseball is just a net even sport here.

Jordan Rodgers said Kiffin won't come to this mess and that LSU is going to have to get creative now with their search. He said Ohio St's OC or even more out of the box thinking, Kellen Moore, because his scheme can work better in college over pros where it's more star driven.
The woman before him named Heather said if she's Kiffin or any other coaching candidate why would you want to walk into this mess. Only thing more embarrassing than paying 50 million buyout is having your governor insert himself so much. She said nobody outside of this state should want to set foot here.
They were talking about the Woodward firing on ESPN's main channel. It disgusts me. What other school would get this negativity at such a national level over politics?

Then I’m guessing they would have told him they weren’t paying it and Kelly would still be the head coach.

This was damage control. And very poorly done at that.
Yep. This press conference does nothing to give the public any confidence in the guys in charge. Just release a statement with the "mutual parting" wording that seemed all they were allowed to say.

Money doesn’t qualify people to make a knowledgeable hiring decision for a football coach.
How the hell does this happen?

I am not saying you are necessarily wrong--but those 3 on the stand sure did look at each other a lot when Cauble basically asked them what led to Scott's dismissal at this point in time. There is a part of this they aren't telling us. My theory holds that the governor is a vindictive bitch and ordered the code red on Scott.
