LSU ‘s Women’s Basketball lost 8.5 million last year.

last year.
LSU can't do anything about TV contracts. If they were to average out TV revenue between all sports, the p&l for the athletic depth would look much different.

one team spent several days out of town for the conference tourney, then had to travel and spend a few days for the NCAA tourney. the other, well. just one day in Nashville. I'm sure that's not the entirety of the difference in expenses, but that is a chunk.
A couple extra days wherever the women’s SEC tournament was and a couple weekend trips for the team in the NCAA tournament does not cost $8 million.

Here are a few facts
In 116 years of MBB we have made the final four 4 times and never been further. So on average once every 29 years with a .569 winning %
But we do have a Alabama style Natty from 1933-35.

Expenses From 22-23
Almost half of it is salaries & wages.
“Supplies & Expenses” probably closer to ~$4M currently
Anybody have the 23-24 numbers? (Ah, that’s what the linked article is but I didn’t see the actual report)
WBB expenses increased from 8.8M to 11.8M

I did some research on this, and from what I gathered, LSU Men’s basketball spent about 1.8m on its roster. The top of the SEC spent around 8m and the middle tier which would include Vandy and Mizzou were around 5m. Just a little context.

Despite being arguably the top baseball program in the country it's hard to make a profit in baseball:
And despite being a bottom feeder the basketball program remains profitable:
Now just think if the administration cared a little more about basketball? Profits could easily double if not quadruple.
quote:
Fiscal year 2023, LSU baseball was close to breaking even after making a run to the NCAA championship. In 2024, Jay Johnson's squad didn't get that close as LSU baseball saw a deficit of nearly $2 million. The baseball team generated $8,021,147 in revenue as it recorded $9,989,478 in expenses.
And despite being a bottom feeder the basketball program remains profitable:

McMahon's team spent $10,750,988.
The men's team did generate profit last year at a little more than $1 million

You have no way of knowing this.

I agree, but why was Will Wade having to pay players out of his own back account? Shouldn’t boosters have been doing that?

That is absolutely fricking insane.
This alone means we need to turn the whole athletic department upside down. Ridiculous.

There is no doubt that we splurge on WBB and we go cheap on MBB.
We hired a cheap coach, we didn’t pump him up in the NIL race, and we don’t promote our program; yet we compare him to Mulkey!
Mulkey is at the top of her profession and gets paid accordingly. McMahon is 50th in salary. You pay for what you get.

Moscone’s only sources are in the LSUAD

When LSU wins, I don't see a penny of it so I really don't care if we invest in a for profit sport or not. I want us to invest in a program that hangs banners and flags.
What an ignorant statement this is. When the athletic brings in more revenue/profit they are able upgrade facilities and spend and invest more in ALL programs. Football subsidizes pretty much the entire athletic department, why not have basketball as a complement to help that out?

I was being sarcastic, but now that this information is coming out, it's very interesting to see how some will choose to spin this. You're expecting a 3rd year coach to overachieve with one of the lowest NIL budgets in the conference, and now their argument of Vandy and Mizzou is in question as well that they spent 3-4x the money we did. It's very interesting. It's a classic case of posting off of emotion rather than facts.

Is there any reason McMahon can’t help himself in terms of NIL bucks? Did he pledge a few bucks and match donors like Brian Kelly did? He has the personality of a wet sock. Sorry, but sometimes in life you need to take bull by the horns and not wait for someone to help you out of the jam.
