Nah, playoffs are the path to a National Championship.

If we’re playing just to ‘make the playoffs’, that’s what we’ll do.

If we’re truly National Champion caliber, we don’t need to be playing many cupcakes.

The FLORIDA loss is Texas's problem. Not OSU.

Or let’s keep scheduling tough OOC games and get left out of the playoff every year and fire another coach.

If you can't beat tough OOC teams you have NO business in the playoffs. THAT'S the reason to fire the coach.

Agree 100% there is no reason to play hard games against out of conference opponents.

So you would prefer your team to NOT make the CFP

Please quote something I wrote indicating I might prefer that.

I’d rather them play a powerhouse in the early season because it’s fun, instead of playing a shite schedule in the hopes that they make the playoffs for what? To see them play a fun opponent? Maybe play a fun opponent instead of definitely play one? Maybe they’d win a playoff game and get to play another fun opponent? Well, maybe they’d beat their opening day opponent and make the playoffs.

The playoffs will be expanded because of this. They will go to16 teams pretty soon the SEC will force it.The conference is to strong top to bottom and a 3 loss SEC team is better than some of the teams who are going to be in the playoffs this season.

Should already be 16. Byes in college make no sense and 16 takes the same amount of time as 12 with byes.

1. Use the BCS formula to pick the 16, with some tweaks maybe. They need to figure out a way for conference championship games to not hurt a team. And 1 G5 guaranteed team (highest in BCS ranking).
2. 8 home CFP games week 1.
3. 4 CFP games in rotating bowls week 2.
4. Semifinals and finals as they are now.

What signature win does Notre Dame have that puts them definitively over Vandy and BYU at 10-2?

That’s not the point. Vandy and BYU AREN’T in because they don’t have signature wins.

quote:

Oklahoma isn't in because they beat a mid Michigan team at home: they are in because they beat Bama on the road in- conference.

Oklahoma was #12 in the initial CFP rankings BEFORE they beat Alabama and Vandy was #16. BYU dropped below them before they beat Alabama and Texas dropped because they lost to Georgia. Oklahoma would be #10 and in playoff position right now behind Alabama and ND if they had played an unranked SEC team instead of beating Alabama. It was the combination of wins over Michigan and Tennessee that put them in playoff position. The Alabama win only solidified that position.

It’s only conjecture, but if Vandy had the win over Michigan and Oklahoma did not at the time of the initial CFP rankings, they would have been ranked right there with Oklahoma at #12 or #13. Oklahoma would have passed them with the Alabama win, but Vandy would still be in conversation. The question is whether that would have been enough for them to pass ND for the last at-large bid with their 21-point win over Tennessee. At a minimum a big non-conference win would have given them a chance they don’t have right now.

The same is true for BYU. If they were the one with a win over USC and not ND, they would be at least in the last at-large spot.

Football is at it's core entertainment.

LSU vs Clemson is entertaining. LSU vs Mississippi Valley State is not.

This is actually backwards. Look at Miami-ND. ND is not getting punished for losing to Miami opening weekend, but Miami is also not getting much credit for it (even in head to head comparison). So while there is little benefit, it's actually not because of the risk of losing.

I disagree that Miami isn’t getting much credit for the ND win. Without that win, they’re just a 2-loss ACC team not playing in the CG. They would be behind Virginia who is in the CG and maybe closer to where Georgia Tech was last week at #22. They definitely wouldn’t be #12 ahead of the ACC CG participants and at least in the conversation for the playoffs.

Their loss to Ohio State isn't hurting Texas. Their loss to Florida is.

And the near misses against both Kentucky and Miss. Stste aren't helping, either.

Hell to the no.

Clempsun is losing a ton of good players, with others entering the transfer portal.

Clempsuns players expected to leave...

QB, two O tackles. best LB, best WR.

Their backup QB's are awful.

Dabo has only recently used the portal as it goes against his philosophy. His minimal portal recruits haven't made much difference. They aren't expected to have a top 20 recruiting class.

Their OC is leaving so they'll be breaking in a new one.

Dabo is a clown. He sprints out onto the field before his team does...wtf.

Lane will take advantage.

Clempsun fans are already spun up for a loss. Let's not disappoint them.

Absolutely not. They need to see the Real Death Valley first hand. It will be Kiffins first game, the stadium will be electric. We will make them feel pain

Just look at Ohio State’s schedule.

They’re in a boring, but easy path to the playoffs year in and out.

Just stack W’s and finish the season strong.

frick that committee and their directional wind changing theatrics.

The LSU name should be enough with double digit W’s in the future.

I agree, nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing Clemson
