So Southern Cal, who beat UCLA by one field goal… And UCLA beat South Alabama by 1 point… leap frogs LSU to #5? No

LSU fans were warned last night that this would happen. LSU does not control their own destiny, AT ALL
There are five power conferences. 4 of the other conf champs will have better records than LSU, and no where near the horrible losses of FSU and Tenn
And you will also have a 1-loss, defending champ, SEC team hovering over us too

The FSU debacle will keep LSU out of NY6.
Losing at home by 27 points hurts way more than losing by 1 point in the first game of the year to a now ranked opponent.

USC will probably lose one of their next two games. LSU has by far the best potential win left with #1 UGA in Atlanta IF they were to pull it off. Also, FSU is ranked in the top 20, so it's not a horrible loss (even less when you consider it was by 1 point in the first game of the season and they had already played a game). LSU still has beaten #8 and #20 and 7 bowl eligible teams already (and potentially more depending on what happens).
These things usually work themselves out just like the team some were talking about deserving to be in over us (Tennessee) getting destroyed last night. LSU, USC and TCU may all lose games before the final playoff selection.

My favorite scenario is:
LSU wins out
TCU wins out
UGA finishes with 1 loss
Ohio St beats Mich, then somehow loses Big10 title game
SC loses to either ND or Oregon
Then you get:
1. TCU
2. UGA
3. OSU
4. LSU
-or if they don't want to drop UGA from 1 and to avoid a SEC Title rematch
1. UGA
2. TCU
3. LSU
4. OSU
Imagine getting into the playoffs with 2 losses and then getting to play TCU
LSU wins out

Gotta be the easiest path to a title game ever.

I think the reality of it is that three spots are already claimed (Georgia, even with one loss, the OSU-Michigan winner, even with one loss in their CG, and the OSU-Michigan loser, also with one loss). The fourth spot comes down to there being no other 1-loss P5 champions. Which means TCU has to lose the Big XII CG, Clemson has to lose to SC or the ACC CG, and USC has to lose to either ND or Oregon. Then if you are measuring 2-loss conference champions, the SEC’s will always be longest. But, as today showed, they will jump any 1-loss potential conference champ over LSU.

Does Rece Davis get a vote in that poll?

How are coaches chosen for "Coaches Poll"?

The real question is are you ready for the potential that TCU and USC both lose and coupled with the Mich/OSU loser leaves a top 4 heading into Championship weekend of:
1 Georgia
2 winner OSU/MICH
3 LSU
4 Alabama
I think they put BAMA over Clemson based on strength of BAMAs wins in SEC and who they lost to. But ND beating USC might give Clemson a pass on getting skillfuked by ND and the #4 cfp spot.
Talk about heads exploding. This might trigger an immediate move to a 12 team playoff!

I tend to agree, but they will do better than TCU

How are coaches chosen for "Coaches Poll"?
OVERVIEW
Since 1950, the AFCA has conducted a weekly Top 20/Top 25 poll during the college football season. The AFCA awards the AFCA Coaches’ Trophy to the No. 1-ranked team in the final FBS Coaches Poll each season. The head coach of the No. 1-ranked team receives the trophy at the American Football Coaches Awards show in early January.
FORMAT
The FBS Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

Actually its USCe that was the issue.
Our conference loss got blown out yesterday by a pretty average team.
Tennessee isn't as good as advertised.

Isn’t this crazy, the 2 teams i hate the most is
Notre Dame- got their coach, excited by their terrible start, Now - love their Xcoach and hope they beat USC
Tx4&8 - soaking in their demise and just hope we beat them bad, a coach we literally went after and is now standing in the way of our New Coach whom I cannot be more appreciative of, after SW left Tx4&8 with a impossible buyout that he got by hiring them both. What a wonderful freaking world of college football!
