I think Faulk and Faneca were both recruited by Hallman

Yes.

quote:

During his senior year, Faulk had developed a close relationship with then-LSU assistant coach Larry Edmondson, who was recruiting him. Then, head coach Curley Hallman and his staff were fired. LSU hired DiNardo from Vanderbilt after its first choice, Texas Christian Coach Pat Sullivan, fell through. In four years at Vanderbilt, DiNardo was 18-26. "I was worried," Faulk said. "Why did they hire a guy who had a similar record at Vanderbilt to the guy they just fired?

Even with his Louisiana roots, he committed to Alabama a day before National Signing Day in 1994 but changed his mind the next morning. He redshirted his freshman year but then started every game at right guard the next three years — 36 straight — as LSU changed coaches from Curley Hallman to Gerry DiNardo.

For the record, does anyone seriously believe LSU could have conquered Auburn in 2017, or Georgia last year, in the afternoon heat, wearing the dreaded purples?

2:30pm game...the fact the UGA and Auburn had to sit in the sun was a bigger factor than jersey color.

That and visit Jamie Howard to keep him from leaving for minor league baseball. But, Hellman already had Faulk in the bag. They almost lost him by hiring DiNardo.

Wrong as usual, whoever was coach had no bearing on Kevin Faulk coming to LSU and I’ll leave it at that.

I don’t need to because I know what happened for an absolute fact. If you can’t figure out what that means you’re more dull than I suspected.

DiNardo was an average coach and an above average prick.
Total arrogance.

MadKing - Calls another poster dull, then claims the response is an ad hominem. I rest my case.

If you weren’t such a RickyMinion you’d realize that we agree. LSU landed Faulk in spite of the DiNardo hire not because of it.

Joe Dean said several times that DiNardo was the most intelligent HC he had ever met. He graduated from ND with honors. But Dean also said that DiNardo had the worst people skills of any HC he ever met. He ran off coach after coach after coach. Yrs later, after he had mellowed considerably, DiNardo claimed that he made a lot personnel mistakes and would always regret it.

Sabin and LSU had almost the same problem as lou tepper with our middle of the field being wide open , best example was the Iowa Loss . I thought at the time it was an echo from the lou tepper past !

---I always considered the Iowa loss a result of team shock/letdown after Saban announced his departure for NFL.

Hallman was one of the all-time worst SEC coaches, so I don't know why hiring DiNardo almost sent Faulk away. DiNardo was at least likable. I do remember him saying that was the first recruit he visited when he was hired. He talked a lot about keeping in-state talent here.
