I seem to remember Les wanting Dak to play full back or Tight End.

Nope. Starkville, MS.

ETA: John David Booty was born in Shreveport, but, of course, didn't go to LSU.

This has been repeated ad nauseum and Bradshaw himself has played it up but back in the 60s, all a Louisiana kid needed to get into ANY public university in Louisiana was a high school diploma and a body temperature of 98.6 !

I only repeat it because Terry Bradshaw told the story on National Television.

It takes a big man to admit that and he was very sincere.

I cant imagine what swayed Dak into wanting play more at Miss St vs at LSU

I'm pretty sure Les waited to the very end before offering. I don't blame Dak for taking the State offer, he probably would have never seen the field based on our ability to evaluate quarterbacks.

True. Dak committed to Miss State in the summer '10 whereas LSU didn't offer him until December '10. Gary Crowton was the OC at that time. Our QB signees that year were Matt Metenberger and Stephen Rivers.

Texas is right next door and I’d bet they’re top 3 to 5 in states that put out NFL QBs.

1+.

I watched the TX 6A football state championship today because a Springhill native is the head coach for Longview (who ended up winning in a good game). They showed a graphic during the pregame about the quality of TX high school QB's. There are currently 8-10 (don't remember the exact number) starting QB's in the NFL who played QB at a TX high school. BTW, the Longview QB (Haynes King, dad is the head coach) looks like a good college prospect. Although he's only a Jr, he already has a number of offers.

Add Kerry Joseph to the list. Backed up Jeff Blake with the Bengals before moving on to the Canadian league.

Another issue is we didn’t sign any of those guys

Dumbasses in here. Bradshaw signed with LSU, couldn’t pass. Jones signed with and graduated from LSU. Humphries signed with LSU, didn’t go to class.
John David Crow DID go to LSU. Bear Bryant came and took him out of his LSU dorm room. Pretty much kidnapped him.

Louisiana norm QBs are either 3rd or 4th on the list for the most SB wins...

That stat is also pretty skewed due to Bradshaw winning 4, and the Mannings being “from LA” circumstantially.

Its the high school systems we run here-Put your best athlete at QB, let him scramble around until somebody gets open and then chuck it deep. They put up gaudy stats but that's not conducive to producing next level Qbs. Then look at Texas, their high schools are big on the 7 on 7 passing and develop a ton of qbs that know how to go through a progression and are college ready.

This. Go watch the Texas HS state championships and watch the LA state championship. QB play is night and day. Supposedly the Warren Easton QB is one of the top QB’s in LA. He’s a great athlete but he’s no QB. He may not start at QB for any of the Texas teams playing in the state championships.

Yeah, even some of us "dumbasses" have heard that version of the events as well. LOTS of John David Crow stories told in Springhill. I like the one personally told to me by a high school classmate of JDC where two men drove to Springhill in two cars, interrupting a summer rec softball game JDC was playing in. One of the men stopped the game, walked over to JDC and game him a set of car keys. The two men then drove off in a car w/ TX plates, leaving the other car, a new Cadillac. Truth or fiction??....I don't know, but the guy who told me the story claimed to have personally witnessed it. Back to parsing words. If you fully believe your version and want to believe that qualifies as having gone to a school, then so be it. Suffice it to say that IF your story is right, most reasonable people still wouldn't say he was actually a student attending LSU.
