re: Losing DBs to flips and missing top DB recruiting targets isn’t a recruiting problem

Recruits don't always go to places that can develop them best. Many are bandwagoners, and many get paid big money.
Yes, some just go to the highest bidder. Others go to to places where they can get paid and be developed for the next level. You have no idea which is the case for each recruit. If money was all that mattered for every big recruit, Miami and USC would have zero 5 stars in the upcoming class.

This kid got paid. He had offers from Bama and UGA already, but committed to LSU. Once he moved up in the rankings all of a sudden it was now time for him to go to UGA?
Maybe he didn’t think LSU would have one of the worst pass defenses in all of college football and once it became obvious that we do he decided he didn’t want to play for that?

Dude, He got paid better. That’s it. These statements about being developed are just dumb kids saying dumb stuff because they have to say something.
You are just making this up

I would like them to go get Chevis though and possibly keeping Steeples.

Dude, our DBs have not developed at all the last 2 seasons.
Two transfer made these awful coaches look good last year and even then it wasn’t great.
Name one DB that has looked like they are developing from last year? None.
It is entirely on coaching from Steeples and Cooks all the way to House’s atrocious playcalling/scheme.
Their recruiting has been subpar as well and that is the worst part.

Even if they are 5 stars (see Denver Harris). If a DB coach can’t even get Denver Harris ready to play, that coach will never get any DB ready to play, much less develop him.
If we part ways with steeples and cooks I won’t shed any tears (though I thought when he was hired he was going to do big things)
With that said this is school number 2 that Denver has had problems at. Kind of like Eli ricks. There’s one common denominator and it ain’t the coaches or school.

The only problem with this “theory” is that no one in all of college football has a better track record of developing DBs.
Track record is from previous coaching staffs not this one. LSU’s DBs looked awful last year for much fo the season and you saw how bad it was when JBC was out for the A&M game.
Garner last year had 0 INTs and only 8 passes defended all season. He was mediocre and I think people didn’t appreciate how good our offense was at times last year to cover up the flaws of the defense.
Again, as these guys got more coaching in for these players, they have regressed on the defensive side, while on offense they have improved. There is a reason for that and it is not talent only.

And Corey Raymond will never come back as long as Kelly is here!!
Raymond was the worst coach on the staff his entire time here. He was really great at recruiting. He had his arse covered by the Aranda and the guy that got burrow here. Bill B.
When they had brought back Bo showed what Raymond really was because he was running the DBs.
He is pure garbage as a coach.

Hire Chevis Jackson from Marshall.
You guys complain about Steeples’ recruiting in one breath and recommend a guy who also has no track record recruiting at a P5, much less SEC level just because he went to school here.
If we make a move, it needs to come with more certainty in coaching AND recruiting.

Harris isn’t on the bench or “unavailable” because of lack of development. He’s there because he can’t stop fricking up off the field.

guess we don't recruit these caliber guys anymore because we don't want to stargaze.
Mathieu was a 3 star for 95% of his recruitment

UGA recruits a million 5 star DBs and puts out like 3 low first round picks in the last 5 years and gets all this credit for developing guys.

Chevis has P5 experience from Kansas. Not SEC level, but the top commits he got (going off 247) were from GA, FL and AL.
Not necessarily advocating for him to come to LSU, but he’s got a better resume as a college coach (8 years as a CB/DB coach with co-DC added this year) than Steeples.

We have an assistant special teams coach developing our CB’s. Not going to get top talent looking to develop with that as a selling point.

LSU cant rely on keeping top La Db's instate anymore based on instate loyalty. They better start paying because i read LSU was close to the bottom in SEC on spending for recruiting. We have lost 3 or 4 top db's from the state in the last few years. Replacing them with Transfer portal avg players is not working. Our DB coaches have not been pulling in top High school talent either. LSU should never be this bad at DB. Better be some evalations done at the end of the season to fix this issue.

Kirby learned this from Saban, when stealing a recruit, have them dog that staff...Saban did it to Mile and O a bunch. He gives talking points, now in this case it's definitley warranted Steeples/Cooks are average at best..vs Kirby who coaches their DBs..
Posted on 10/23/23 at 7:15 am to 00 Tech Grad
Exactly. Clearly Brian Kelly has no idea how to build a program. I can only hope he has staffers reading this board like Eaux did so that they can take our wisdom and build a top 10 program.
