Why? It's officially recognized by the NCAA. What's Busch league is not claiming it. What a disservice to those players and coaches.

If the NCAA recognizes us as a 1908 champ, then why shouldn't we?

We should have claimed it earlier.

I do agree we deserve it. This is infinitely more legit than someone like A&M, for example, claiming a natty for a computer formula that went back and retroactively calculated rankings back in the 1930s.

However, any natty that is claimed at a later date is a little lame. Especially after the entire team has since passed away.

If it was in the midst of a success drought and while the program is stuck in mediocrity, maybe.

But coming off a NC, I don't have much issue recognizing something the NCAA already has.

That team only managed to outscore opponents at a rate of over 40-1.

Yeah when the ncaa recognizes it, there is no reason why we shouldn’t claim it

The National Championship Foundation (NCF), I think founded in the 1940's went back and awarded NC's to pre-POLL era, which was 1936, when the AP Poll became the first Consensus Poll for a NC. The Coaches Poll started in 1950 and of course we had AP/Coaches-UPI till the BCS started in 1998 an then the CFP in 2014. So LSU has 4 that meet the strictest criteria, the 1958, 2003, 2007 and 2019.

The 1908 has been awarded by the NCF for years. In the context of it being a Pre-AP Poll (1936), I think there is nothing wrong with it. From 1936 onward, only AP Poll, Coaches-UPI Poll, BCS and CFP are legitimate.

just my take

Man we beat the frick out of Baylor that year. 89-0

Also helps that Harvard and Penn that year each had a tie and we did not.

Claiming this 1908 title puts LSU in a tie with Nebraska and Miami with 5 titles. Good company

LSU used to claim the 1908 title for years on end, it has only been in the last near 30 they have not.

The old saying was to effect 1908, 1958 and next year, in print in Baton Rouge for years on end.

The ncaa doesn’t officially award national championships in football that’s like winning the NIT in basketball and claiming you’re national champions.

I didn't say the NCAA awarded it. I said they recognize it. Which they do if you look at their site.

I grew up in Tiger Stadium and the flag for 1908 flew with the 1958 flag in the NE forever. I guess Saban took it down. I do not know. But it was there from the 70's through the 90's then everyone started saying we should claim 1908
