The alleged scheme focused on getting students admitted to elite universities as recruited athletes, regardless of their athletic abilities, and helping potential students cheat on their college exams, according to the indictment.

The plot involved students who attended or were seeking to attend Georgetown University, Stanford University, UCLA, the University of San Diego, USC, University of Texas, Wake Forest, and Yale, according to federal prosecutors.

Seems like WW accusations are small potatoes compared to this scheme. Watch LSU will get the death penalty and these schools will get off scott free.

Maybe I'm not following here, but why would schools be wanting to admit regular students as "recruited athletes" to their school to get them in if they weren't really athletes? What are they trying to say here?

I would get admitting actual athletes who dont even come close to regular students as an issue, but regular students as "athletes"? Were their parents big money donors or something?

Yeah- something seems off about how this is being presented initially.

They are, UNC had fake classes, had tutors take tests and had tutors give answers.

Getting paid big money to do so. Saw one of the payments was $300,000 dollars to act like the kid was a basketball player to get accepted into Penn.

The parent believes the Ivy League education is worth the bribe and somebody gets paid to make it happen.

We all know damn well that all of these athletes do not meet academic standards of places like Duke, GT, Stanford, etc.

This is why you don't react in a knee jerk fashion to Pat Ford's Yahoo Sport article.

So is this rich parents buying heir kids’ way into schools which they would never academically qualify for? If so, where are those payments going?

So it's about bribes to get students in basically

The suspects allegedly paid bribes of up to $6 million to get their kids into elite colleges, including Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and USC.

In most cases, the students did not know their admission was contingent on a bribe.

University athletic coaches and administrators of college entrance exams were also among those arrested.

The alleged scam centered around a man in California who ran a business helping students get into the college of their choice.

Authorities say parents would pay him a predetermined amount, with full knowledge of what they were doing. He would then steer the money to one of two places: either an SAT or ACT administrator, or a college athletic coach.

The coaches would allegedly arrange a fake profile that listed the prospective student as an athlete, and exam administrators would either hire proctors to take the test or correct the answers of a student.

The bribes ranged from a few thousand dollars to up to 6 million, according to officials. The charging documents, unsealed in Boston federal court, are more than 200 pages long.

Just a statement of fact: the prosecution is going to have a difficult time proving someone was harmed in this entire deal.

It appears everyone benefited.

Yeah. So Aunt Becky from Full House had her kids admitted to USC as crew members, taking advantage of the lower requirements, despite them never lifting an oar.

This is a really weird scandal though.
