You don't understand how the arena would be built and paid for.
They are going to do the same thing that was done for the Moody center and Texas.
The developer paid the cost to build the arena.
That is not exactly right and why I wonder if LSU could pull this off.
First the Moody Center cost 375 million. The Moody Foundation donated 130 million(thus the name Moody Center) and the developer donated the rest (about 65%).
LSU said the developer would provide all the funds.
Remember developers are in business to make money. Since LSU gets ghd revenue for all their events, the developer has to make money from just their events; yet operate and maintain the building on LSU’s property. Austin, Texas is way larger than Baton Rouge and already had a strong music industry. BR doesn’t.
I do not believe a developer can pull it off without major donations from the LSU side.

Serious question? What happens to the pmac? Do they tear it down?

They were going to repurpose it somehow.
But currently the ath dept runs it. The university “gave” it to them. It doesn’t really make sense for anything else but an arena really.

He may have rigged the bid on the Moody, but he built a fabulous arena. The Moody is a top notch facility and way better then the Erwin center that Texas had before.
I say let the man cook and LSU will have a wonderful arena that will draw all kinds of cool shows and acts to Baton Rouge.
Are acts bypassing Baton Rouge now due to the River Center and PMAC? Large acts go to Lafayette and NO but are we sure more acts will come to Baton Rouge with a better/newer facility?

Im not sure what the plan after the new arena is built is. What do they use the cow barn for currently? Im just thinking how do they use the other old arena on campus?
This is just a spit ball. But the Pmac site would be a good spot to repurpose for a better tailgating experience for fans. I dont know if that would be to repurpose it for fan experience or tear it down and develop it into a park for tailgating.
The athletic department wants the new arena if they can make it happen. Do yall have any ideas what to do with the Pmac after?

It seems the developer and LSU think so.

Clears the way to prioritize Jay Johnson Park at the cow pasture lot. Play on Alex Box Field on Skip Bertman Drive will pretty awesome.
Oh, and imagine the recruiting edge having prospects toe the Livvy Dunn Rubber at Paul Skenes Bullpen...

Difference between Moody and future LSU arena is the space. Moody is just the arena. LSU is giving the developer more space to pursue additional revenue streams (hotels, restaurants, condos, etc.)

They've also said the developer could go to the City-Parish and ask for a contribution. I'm sure they'll also sell the naming rights just like Moody Center did.
As far as operational costs, I believe that is what that 1 cent sales tax is going to help pay.

Some would probably come to BR, but there would be fierce competition I suspect.
How many acts could BR support? That’s the bigger question. If a developer is going to put up 400 million dollars and spend thousands to maintain and operate the facility each year, he is going to want to get his money back and then some to turn a profit for his investors. He needs to do that while LSU keeps a lot of Fridays Saturday and Sundays and quite a few week days.

If it’s for tailgating TAF will find a way to charge for it.

The C-P is planning on their own project with their own developer to upgrade the River Center. How could they help the developer?
And they didn’t sell the naming rights, the Moody Foundation donated 35% of the money needed to help the University get their new arena. The point being the developer couldn’t swing the deal by themselves in Austin. It would be even tougher in BR.
Canes or someone would have to pitch in big time. That’s what I’m thinking.

That's the perfect candidate to build it
Posted on 7/10/25 at 1:56 pm to nicholastiger
Damn does it really cost 400 million to build a 15k seat arena? Wtf
Posted on 7/10/25 at 1:58 pm to ProjectP2294
LOL!!! Your sarcasm is painfully accurate.

Well I for one am shocked that we went with a company accused rigging bids. That's just not the state of Louisiana that I know.
Everyone thinks Texas is the mecca of southern government and they got wrapped up. Just wait until Louisiana starts privatizing more and more work. More contracts means more bribes.

Large acts bypass Louisiana entirely now.

Cow Palace needs a major investment to turn it into offices or labs for that innovation center. There has to be a better place for the Livestock Show over by the campus pastureland.

Tomato/tomahto. Get a donation from someone and they get the building named after them.
