I’m not worried.

I’m sure there’s enough slush in the contract to handle a few bribes to keep the project on schedule.

LSU claimed the developer was going to put up all the money. There is no money to “move”.

Louisiana has absurd process where lowest bidder can be a homeless man using a shelter for his business address

I think they found a way around that bid process for this project.

Bypassing the bid process for public projects is an art form, and figuring out ways around it are what get people put in high positions. That's why there are so many contracts awarded for $1 under the threshold. (Like all of the $49,999 contracts for "professional services").

So putting the arena a mile away from campus makes it better for fans. I see nothing wrong with the PMAC. It’s basketball!! Never full anyhow.

Zero premium seating/club seating.

Most college basketball stadiums don't have club seating.

The arena is round, needs to be rectangular for better sight lines

the sight lines are fine. There isn't a seat in the entire stadium where you can't get a good view of the game.

he designers of the bathrooms in the build ing should be shot on site. Worse designed bathrooms ever and not able to handle the big crowds

Good thing LSU rarely has big crowds. That said, the bathrooms.

A stadium being a concert venue as well would be nice (like the Moody Center in Austin...which is the model for this project). But from an LSU basketball standpoint a new arena does NOTHING in and of itself to elevate the program. Some of the best programs in America play in old arenas (Duke and Kansas for example).

LSU basketball doesn't suck because of the PMAC. The PMAC, for the better part of 30 years, has sucked because of LSU basketball. Auburn isn't good because they built a new arena. They are good because they have Bruce Pearl. In the ever evolving and growing race to pay players more and more money, sinking a ton into a new arena isn't a great investment in terms of improving the program. Get that right first...then we can talk about a new stadium.

Florida
South Carolina
Auburn
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
Texas
Arkansas

All have premium/suite/club areas. This is just in the SEC.

A&M and Bama are considering projects with upgrades to include premium spaces/seating.

The article says this was a no-bid deal altogether - no public bidding process was used at all. I guarantee there are a bunch of nervous people in BR right now.

So you're saying Mr. Robear might be able to get the contract after all.

I can build an arena, me!

He may have rigged the bid on the Moody, but he built a fabulous arena. The Moody is a top notch facility and way better then the Erwin center that Texas had before.

I say let the man cook and LSU will have a wonderful arena that will draw all kinds of cool shows and acts to Baton Rouge.

Of course the arena has nothing to do with wins and losses. But in an era where we are loooking for additional revenue, premium seating, club level stuff would be a way across multiple sports to generate more revenue.
There is a reason why none of the new arenas are built circular anymore.

You don't understand how the arena would be built and paid for.

They are going to do the same thing that was done for the Moody center and Texas. The developer paid the cost to build the arena. Texas entered into a long term lease agreement for the dates they need to use the Moody. Any other dates, shows, concerts, etc are booked through the developer of the arena.

Texas got use of a brand new state of the art arena without paying the cost to build it.

This is the same way LSU is trying to build their arena. Lsu would not have a huge capital outlay to get it built.

Rupp arena is not on the campus of the University of Kentucky and they seem to do ok with its location.

The LSU arena would be closer to campus then Rupp is to UK. The location won't matter much in the end.

The Pmac sucks and trying to remodel it would be a waste of money vs having a developer build us a new arena on their dime.
