There was a lot that built on guys making smooth transitions to roles they've never been in on this year's team. Specifically on the pitching staff.

Evans was moving from a late season Sunday role, where he wasn't consistently a starter, to Fridays.

Schmidt was moving from part time starter and pretty bad SEC reliever to a weekend starter role.

Moore was going from Big 12 Saturday to SEC Saturday. His transition was less extreme, but he was always considered a high floor guy.

Sheerin was coming off an injury that kept him out last year and transitioning from an absolute shithook conference.

Rizy hasn't actually performed much differently this year, it's just that the contact made against him is going to base hits.

Williams was smoke and mirrors last year and it caught up to him this year.

Guidry was coming off a significant injury and missed time.

The warts were there if people wanted to see them.

We haven't lost a contributor we wanted to keep yet.

Pearson had a lot of bad luck. He’s probably a .250ish SEC hitter with good power. Ruckert had a lot of growing pains and has trended up much better at the end of the season. I would be comfortable with him at second. Patrick I’ve not seen anything from other than one clutch hit against MSST. Good kid, but he’s maybe a 9 hole hitter I could plug in left field if the rest of our lineup is nails.

Need two outfielders and a SS in the portal unless Ruckert moves to short and you grab a 2B in the portal. I think you really only need 3 starters in the portal, which can let you really spend to bring in some studs.

Pitching is by far the biggest need for improvement. Need a lot of arms in relief.

Any way we could money whip Dax Whitney into the portal from Oregon State?

ETA - nevermind my bad, see he just went out and needs surgery.

Jay needs a top flight Friday starter more than anything else. High first round draft pick caliber of pitcher.

Schmidt and Evans are not that and will never be that.

Jay doesn’t win national championships without that. Need a Anderson / Skenes level ace and then a Eyanson / Floyd level second guy. Hopefully more Eyanson than Floyd.

Louisville has a lefty 1B that has hit 33 bombs so far this year. That'll play.

Of your "Not Sure" guys, I don't see how Guidry and Noot help next year's team. I think they may be told to sign. I can see Yamin going to a smaller school for his Sr season.

For Evans to be a starter he needs to make a huge leap like Anderson did last season.I think Schmidt is the only weekend guy on this team right now.JJ needs to hit a grand slam in the portal this offseason for LSU to dramatically improve on the mound in 27.

Going to need a SS and 3B because i think Pearson needs to either DH or play 1B.

I’m not wild about sacrificing 2B or 3B defense for hitting, but if we do it we can’t get a complete defensive incompetent and he better rake.

Braun can play 1B or RF. Depends on what’s best for the line up.

Pearson can play 1B 3B or DH but it will really depend on where he is needed.

Serna can play 1B but it’s likely him and Cade rotating at DH and C. So Pearson is 1B if Braun is needed in the OF but if Braun is in the infield he will be 1B and Pearson will stick at 3rd.

Unless Pearson goes to the portal which I don’t think happens

3rd? That’s a big defensive sacrifice for what Pearson brings to the plate. Braun in the outfield is what would make this work. That allows you to put Pearson at first and keep the two catchers in the lineup. Plus we need outfielders.

Yes, though it’s uncommon, and the statement was not intended as a knock on Jay as everyone needs talent to win.

First round pick worthy ace is the first step. It simply won’t happen without one.

Yep! I quit buying into preseason hype in football years ago and will now do the same for baseball.
