Overall looks pretty good.

Need to keep the core group and major pieces.

Getting a stud starting pitcher and a few relievers is the key.

Gone:
Cowan-Senior
Stanfield-Senior
Brown-Draft
Curiel-Draft
Reaves-Senior
Simpson-Senior
Dardar-Senior
Caraway-Draft or Portal
Dathe-Senior
Yorke-Senior
Fontenot-Senior
Benge-Senior
Likely Gone:
Sheerin: draft but maybe we could get back since he has 2 years
Miliam: projectability vs NIL
Not Sure:
Guidry: draft or back
Noot: draft or back
Rizy: Portal or back
Williams: portal or back
Harden: portal or back
Clauss: portal or back
Yamin: portal or back
Garcia: draft or back
Plog: portal or back
Aase: who?
Primeaux: no clue
Back:
Serna
Ruckert
Patrick
Braun
Pearson: 75/25
Arrambide: 75/25
Theophilus
Paz
Evans
Schmidt
Moore
Ricken:50/50

Honestly it still lines up well for us. Good group of youth. Just need pieces and guys to take the next step

Bide
Serna
Braun
Pearson
Ruckert
Patrick

Those 6 guys you can build around with Evans and Schmidt as starters. Going to need a SS and 3B because i think Pearson needs to either DH or play 1B. Relief pitching will be #1 on the portal needs.

I was really looking forward to this year’s team. Going to temper my expectations going forward.

Primeaux: no clue

I'm not on the Primeaux hate wagon. He's been in the program for 4 years, has a couple nattys in his back pocket. If he decides he wants to be back at LSU, I think there is a spot for him. He would probably be a DSA and not count against the 34 man limit.

If he decides he wants to get more mound time in his last year in baseball and go to one of the in state Southland school, I would wish him luck.

Garcia: draft or back

I think he goes in the draft. His stuff is better than his performance this year. I could see him going to the MLB draft league or the Cape and having a couple good outings and boosting his stock like Fidel Ulloa did.

Overall, I don't see any glaring issues with your assessment of the current roster.

Did Jonah Aase even throw one pitch competitively this season? I don't recall

Maybe this is a little tough on these guys, but they are hitting

Ruckert - .214
Pearson - .182
Patrick - .176

In SEC play this season. Now Ruckert and Patrick's sample sizes arent near the size of Pearson but personally I wouldnt pencil in any of those 3 as "Building around" guys for sure next year. Not saying I wouldnt want them back, but I'm probably recruiting portal guys to compete against them for sure.

Aase had TJ in April 2025 and was never going to throw this year

He came in after TJ surgery and was always going to miss this season.

It's not like it was some secret either. It was pretty widely publicized all over the place.

If you're going to bitch as much as you do about the team, fricking know something about it.

This!! You can’t have a fat arse at 3B unless he’s got an elite glove

What we are going to need is options.

and we’re in a good spot to go get guys and have them.

We have 3 outfield positions open and 1 guy getting consistently playing time there.

we have in my mind 3 infield spots wide open and flexibility at 1b

The only spot that’s really manned is C.

Pitching i think we need to go get 2 guys with starting experience. I realy do not think Evans is a starter and I think we at least need to find an option if Evans and Schmidt or Paz don’t take another leap forward.

We also need a ton of BP arms.

should be a fun offseason

I doubt Jay lets much of the current team return next year. A few bright spots but largely, I bet next year's team looks very different.

He could let everyone back except seniors and draft guys and the team will look very different next year. This statement makes no sense.

Outside of a few pitchers and a couple hitters in the last decade, Louisiana simply hasn't produced much elite talent.

Who was the last LA recruit, that wasn't a pitcher, to be a significant draft risk out of HS...?

Maybe Peyton Stovall that went to Arkansas. There have been some other guys that were committed to either out of state schools or lower tier in state that went pro out of HS but in late rounds for low dollars, so they don't really fit the spirit of your question.

Jacob Pearson might be the last Louisiana position player LSU lost to the draft out of high school. But my memory is getting worse every day so I could be missing someone.

Then I wish him good luck.

It's the good side of the portal for guys like him to find a landing spot for their last year that allows them to get more time on the field.

I think it's a little early to call it obviously for Ruckert or Patrick since they are freshmen and both highly recruited (Top 100/150 overall type players). Ruckert just turned 19 a few months ago and Patrick is still 19 as well.

Pearson on the other hand I think is what he is. A guy who can go yard at any point but is never going to hit for any type of impressive average especially against better pitching. He is obviously a below average fielder wherever you put him as well if you dont have him DH. To me he's a PH/bench guy long term here, probably not an every day starter, even as DH (with the DH talent we are generally able to assemble here, and thinking long term when Arrambide isn't catching, the dude needs to be hitting still). He's gotten plenty of run now here and is like 21.5 years old too, so he isnt young by any shape of the imagination either.

We will see about Ruckert and Patrick more long term (assuming they stay), but you're not wrong. LA hasn't produced eye opening talent that's made it to a college campus this year or last year so far it seems (I'm sure I'm missing some dude ranked way outside the Top 500 that landed at a mid-major/JUCO somewhere and tearing it up, alas)...outside of Mikey Ryan at NC ST who did have an AWESOME season this year. Dude is hitting like .364 against ACC competition or something.

Grayden Harris at USM has been really consistent the first 2 years, dont know how dominant the stuff side is for him (he does get hit around a bit but only 4 HR allowed) but 3.39 ERA last year and 3.31 ERA is still notable and impressive I would say at least. He has only 43 walks and 4 wild pitches in 131.2 IP so far...clearly a little too in control for our staff here Dont know why he wasn't good enough for us despite being like 30 min from campus, but maybe Jay rectifies a wrong there and gets this kid back VERY close to home this offseason.

Ostrander is an outstanding pitching coach.

And he's been picking off the best of the "next tier" of Louisiana pitchers for the last couple years. Harris and Sunstrom are both pitching well in their weekend rotation this year.

we have a ton of young pitchers.

Evans, sophomore
Schmidt, sophomore
Rizy, sophomore
Cooper Williams, sophomore
Lachenmayer, sophomore
Plog, sophomore
Ricken, freshman
Sheerin, sophomore
Theophilus, freshman
Paz, freshman

I feel pretty good about that core. None of those guys have been worse than the upper classmen
