Looking back, how frustrating was the USC loss?

LSU would be undefeated and likely the number one team in the country. On the flip side, USC lost their 3rd straight game and is now 3-4.

It could end up ruining the season. Kelly has to get better at preparing his team for opening games. It puts a lot of pressure on LSU to lose only 1 more game the rest of the season going through the SEC.

I agree it sucks to lose a winnable game. But sometimes winning makes you stubborn and slow to change. Losing usc is a large part of why Weeks and Durham have emerged, and the dline and dbs have improved drastically. We might have lost a sec game later if we’d squeaked out a win vs usc and stayed with the same plan.

Yes I am trying to put a positive spin on it.

If the team wouldn’t have played that game they very well could have two other losses by now. That game served a purpose and even with it being a loss, it was out of conference and allowed you to learn about where you’re at as a team.

I somewhat agree with this.

A non-conference loss where you learn your flaws is frustrating, but we definitely learned what we needed to improve.

Contrast that with teams like Ole Miss, who learned nothing until Week 5, when they suffered a conf loss and had no time to fix anything before the schedule got hard

It’s was a tough loss, but remember we were starting the season with a new OC and a new DC. Scheduling a less competitive opponent would have been nice but there was no way of knowing when USC was scheduled that we would be breaking in new coordinators.

I was there and witnessed the debacle. Sat with a bunch of USC fans too. For the rest of the season I'm sitting in front of my 85" lol

It is still a massive hickey. LSU must win out to be in SECCG.

USC was a very winnable game that we let slip away

No we don't. The USCw loss has no bearing on the SEC Championship game.

In the event of a tie between teams competing for a place in the Conference championship game, the following procedures will be used in descending order until the tie is broken:

(1) Head-to-head competition among the tied teams

(2) Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams

(3) Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams

(4) Cumulative Conference winning percentage of all Conference opponents among the tied teams

(5) Capped relative total scoring margin versus all Conference opponents among the tied teams

(6) Random draw of the tied teams

If anything it proves you need to play some good teams to start the season OOC. Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Oregon all did that. You’re seeing a bunch teams that played cupcakes schedules OOC like Ole Miss, Bama, Texas, Ohio State etc are getting exposed the later we get into the season.

USC game has nothing to do with SECCG. And I have said before and will say it again USC had an advantage, in addition to the fact we had. New OC and DC and lots of freshman playing, with the elevation and time zone change. It is why our defense looked like Swiss cheese in the second half of that game but has dominated every second half since. We gave up 17 pts in 3bd half of that game. We have given up an avg of 6 pts in second half of every other game including 3 last night.

During the entirety of a season, sometimes you let a game get away and sometimes you steal one. The win on the road against a good S. Carolina team was a steal and offsets the USCw loss.

LSU is in a great position now and getting stronger. Just keep winning.

You just don’t know it turns out that way. If lsu would have beat usc maybe they lose to ole miss or South Carolina. Maybe the usc loss made the team better.

Ohio State lost by one point on the road to likely the new #1 team. How have they been exposed?

If LSU loses to TAMU or the Gumps, they will be left out assuming the other schools hold serve.

If we played them now we’d win by 14 minimum

Should have won the last 3 opening games if we got under center on short yard situations
