It was incredible how Dale Brown coached that team, and was unable to accomplish anywhere close to that level of success with talent-laden teams in the early 90s
Dale was a hell of a motivator. But not so much for x's and o's. Should've gotten a lot more out of the CJ, Shaq, Roberts team.

That put back at the buzzer against Memphis is an epic moment in LSU BB history...

Whether we led by 6 or 8 at the half, louisville just took over and beat us in the 2nd. I was just telling the other poster (twice now) that the lead was in fact 8 and not 6. I would do the same if you were to say "I remember that final 4 game well- it was played on a tuesday night." When it's common knowledge the game was on a saturday, the first of 2 semis that day.

I accepted your correction of me on that, you were right...I wasn't challenging any point you made. Just mentioning a point about the '81 Final Four that had always bothered me.

I was wrong on the toupee. Documented as a vicious combover.
Keady spent $600 a week on his combover

It's all good. I have been mistaken about PLENTY of things when distant memories are involved!! That particular final 4 game is just seared into my mind because we were an 11, and could have won it all.

True story....I was driving to Baton Rouge to buy tickets for that regional and was mistakenly pulled over for suspected armed robbery. Police thought we were the get away car for an armed robbery that had just occurred in ferriday.

Don't forget Tex Winter was on staff. Had a lot to do with it. Came up w freak defense.

look at Shaquille's video..done by ESPN
He blames the players.
Too many "egos".
then go and read Coach Brown's record..
impressive !
..not the best X & Os man, but you can not make the players play.

Since I am dealing with the heartbreaking Saints loss yesterday, I will share my favorite story about the 86 team. We went to Atlanta to watch them win their way to the Final Four and went to the Final Four in Dallas. The night after they lost the game my wife and I were at the team hotel. Naturally I was all bummed out. Still dejected, we were going to dinner at a local steakhouse. We were walking from the lobby to the parking lot when our paths crossed with Dale Brown who was walking to the lobby. I shook his hand, thanked him and said "Well coach, It was fun while it lasted. It was a fun ride". Dale responded, with a big smile on his face, "That's okay. We will be back next year; and next year it will be in the Superdome". The master motivator lifted my spirits and we were able to have some semblance of a nice night out..... I had no such encounter last night and am still bummed out about the Saints game.

Same game where fricking Bobby Knight should have gotten t'ed up for slamming the phone down at scorer's table but the refs were too scared to call it.
Abso-damn-lutley!

Like I said, Dale's best years were when he had Tex, kind of same thing for Parcells when he had Belicheck.
All Fess had to do was make free throws.

Me too. Loved that season. Blanton was solid.

I would've paid good money to see Dale punch him in the face. To this day, still despise Bobby Knight.
