Tex came up with the 3 man offense game, swinging it from left middle to right side of the key, Dale had been using it even before he came to LSU. Tex's book is under Winter, Fred (1962), The Triple-Post Offense. Prentice-Hal
Winter was hired as an ast coach for only the 83-84 season if I remember correct.
Dale Brown came up with the changing defense, not Tex Winter, under Brown the defense could be a 3-2 zone one trip and man to man next, or a 3 man zone and 2 pressing the ball, or a 4 man diamond zone with one man covering the ball. It changed near every time the ball changed, and sometime going from one to the other in the middle of the defense.
But the myth some have of Brown not being and x and 0 coach is just that a myth, defense is what LSU was known for and not Tex's 3 man game. Yes LSU was one of a handful of colleges using Tex's offense, and the NBA uses that offense more today. After the 83-84 season Tex when to the Chicago Bulls in 1985 and stayed there until 99 and then he moved to the Lakers, he brought the 3 man game to the NBA in his days at the Bulls.

Yeah, I don't the issues with Dale is that he did not know anything about basketball. I agree that's overplayed.
I think it was that he was into other things more and could not focus on mundane things like basketball strategy like the typical coach could. It bored him. And that was unfortunate for us at times cause he was our coach.
I think he probably was/is a poster child for one of those disorders like ADHD that all the kids are diagnosed with now. I think it was real for him. He could never focus on one thing very long.

Ricky Blanton shut down 3 marquee centers in a row to help elevate LSU to the final 4. It was a helluva an effort by that team and one of the best jobs of coaching Dale Brown.

Bedford and Salley were beasts.
Walker was a C? Thought he was a forward.

As good as all this is, the 81 Final Four team has to be considered one of the greatest teams ever not to win it all and I'm talking all-time that team was deep AF, unfortunately for them they met the forces of nature that semifinal named Isiah "Zeke" Thomas and Bob Knight

Back then..when Blanton was shutting down these star Centers....Ozzie Osborne had a song "Killer of Giants" that played in my head...amazing what a little herb will do to the young mind...Good Times!

Some of these guys were on the 89 team that beat Georgetown in the superdome on a last second layup by Blanton. Great game. I was there with about 55,000 people.
