Gonna be so deflating for them and their new season when they lose. I almost feel bad for them... like Lucy pulling the ball away from Charlie Brown.

That big Alamo Bowl victory over a 5A west coast team has them brimming with confidence.

Well, you can't blame 'em for wishing. They smell blood in the water and they fee they're ready to reel in a BIG one!
Remember though, they gonna be sitting really high in the nosebleed section, all of the fans. And the locker room should be warm & toasty for the team. It's called PAYBACK

We’ll beat their arse, then our former D Coordinator will beat them. At least I hope anyway.

Texas football season is from mid January to the end of August. They kick everybody’s arse and take names.

THEN, the season starts for everyone else, and REALITY STRIKES AGAIN.

Not too many on defense. Off the top of my head, Brandon Jones at safety, Jeff McCullough at LB, and Malcolm Roach at DE. They were young on defense this season and will be returning a lot of starters and key rotation guys. Their new DC Chris Ash will have them back in a 4-2-5 base, which I think plays better to their DL and LB personnel.

On O, they lose Duvernay and Collin Johnson at WR and a couple of OL, including Zach Shackleford. But they return Sam, will be pretty solid and deep at RB (Ingram and Johnson return, plus Whittington should be healthy and 5-star Bijan Robinson will be in the mix, too). Question mark at WR - Eagles, Moore, and Jake Smith look to be the starters. Talented and flashed this year, but losing Duvernay is big. They also have a new OC, Mike Yurcich. Will be interesting to see how his philosophy blends with Herman's.

As objective as I can be, I think Texas will be better next year and will be a tough out. They had a ton of injuries on D this year, and I think that forced their now fired DC Todd Orlando to have to try some things to compensate, which got them out of sorts. And then their O started pressing to compensate for their D's struggles. Both sides of the ball got out of whack.

All that said, their fans are doing the same thing they did last season leading into our game with them - underestimating us. They know what we're losing. They don't know what we're returning, outside of the known guys like Chase and Stingley. I happen to think Brennan is going to impress. If he does, and a couple young LBs step up, I think we will be really good. All other positions look solid to strong to me.

Isn’t that exactly what people would have said about LSU last year?

Fortunately, the coaches and staff do not take a team with a top flight coach and that has back to back top 5 recruiting classes returning lightly. I get a kick out of people perusing an opponents board and poking fun at fans acting almost exactly like rangers do.

That being said, Coach O and LSU once again surprise the college world and comes out looking like the 2019 team but with better defense early on and leave a wake of disbelief and destruction in their path. Myles Brennan garners comparisons to Joe Burrow (doesn’t quite match his numbers) and the three headed monster of Curry, Davis-Price, and Emery call up memories of the 97 backfield of Faulk, Mealy and Collins for the long time Tiger faithful. That’s my hope, anyway.

That is definitely the hope, but losing Aranda makes that first part about the defense tougher to pull off now.

Would have been great to have the multitude of young guys stepping up on D be in the familiar system they’re used to.

But the early schedule outside of UT is laughable, so we’ll be almost at midseason before SEC play heats up which hopefully gives us time to figure it all out.

Whatever O did to convince Shelvin and Stevens to come back is already one of the biggest moves he could have made.

Now to fill out the staff

No doubt, man. It’s a Texas thing. Aggies are the same. Dallas Cowboys, too. They’ve been raised on that Texas State history, which is a lot of very remarkable rugged individualism that the last couple of generations had nothing to do with.
