Signing 3 of the top 5 players in state of LA, including the #1 player Harlem Berry

9 of the top 15

Missed on #2 guy Jahkeem Stewart, but USC DL coach went to Karr

#3 Devin Harper flipped to Ole Miss, but we should be getting two higher ranked OL from out of state, already signed one

Is 9 of the top 15 considered locking up the state?

Only sucks because both are at a huge position of need/immediate impact type player.

Absolutely. Can’t keep all of em.

The key is none of them going to Bama & only 1 RB to Texas (we already signed 2)

Two going to Miss State can always transfer back home

12 out of 15 last year was better, but we are keeping majority of the best in state talent

Texas only signed 6 of the Top 15

And only 1 of the Top 7

With all their money. Recruiting is more cutthroat and insane than ever. Be thankful for what you get, then figure it out.

Predictability in this sport has gone out the window

Texas is a big state, so different metrics. The top 9 are all 5 stars

The key to success at LSU though has always been the in state talent

Keeping Louisiana talent at home is huge and some state talent aren't born to be LSU Tigers.

Forever LSU and Geaux Tigers.

Well They only signed 9 of the Top 50 players in the state. For school with deep pockets, that's pretty bad.

If I were Texas I would NEVER leave the state to recruit unless the was massive mutual interest

I think 9/15 is pretty good for Louisiana

Although I am suspect of our evals in recent years, but we have a better coaching staff right now.

Context matters. Last year we signed 9 of the top ten because the talent was versatile across positions and was up to SEC standards. Outside of Jahkeem, who wanted a massive bag, we're not really missing anyone in state that moves the needle. You can tell because there have been pretty much zero threads on the guys that are leaving.

No it is not!!!

In the current state of NIL we should be going 1000% all in on LA. 9 out of 15 is getting 60% of the top 15 and that's a shame. Go heavy in LA and develop them. This is supposed to be Kelly's area of expertise in taking players and developing them. I have no issue with taking 3 stars from within the state and helping them grow into excellent football players. Top guys are going to be more heavily swayed with $ so lean into the talent rich state you reside in. Makes no sense in my opinion.

I already posted reasons for 2 of the top 3.

The other guys:
#7 & #11 are the 22nd & 30th best CBs
We signed the 4th & 19th best CBs

#8 is the 10th best RB
We signed the #1 & 8th best RB

#10 is the 27th best WR
We signed the 25th & 47th best WR & might also get the 7th

100% isn’t realistic bc you can’t keep everyone happy with the transfer portal. I think 9 out of 15 is pretty good especially when Bama isn’t getting the other 6

3 of those 15 we weren't recruiting

1 of those 15 would have been a 3rd RB in our class

1 of those 15 just got $2M/yr from the school he signed with after playing 1 season of high school football at a non-premium position

Different metrics for recruit rankings too.

There are players out of Louisiana every year that would be 5 stars if they were in Texas.

Relatively, LSU is still recruiting Louisiana better than most other programs in their states.

Bama signed 1 guy from the AL top 10.

UF and FSU combined for 3 of the top 10 in FL.

USC got 1 guy from the top 10 in CA.

UT and aTm combined for 5 of the Texas top 10.

NIL makes it harder then ever to lock down in state recruits.

Your initial statement tells it all in my book. This year by the 247 composite 4* LA guys, there were 4 RBs and LSU got 2. There were 3 WRs and LSU got 2. Anyone who just stargazers at ratings and not worried about need or balance should have worked under Orgeron. His classes were completely lopsided with skill players and few trench players. I checked one time and in 3 years stretch of recruiting when he was at LSU, he signed 6 OL grand total. But hey, LSU classes were always way up there in the team rankings. Too bad those skill players couldn't play OT or OG.

USC got like 3 players from the top 30 in California but decided to throw a bag at a 17 year old DL from LA

frick them that’s annoying.
