After the way we performed against a dog shite USC team last year in the opener, I REFUSE to sit here and say Clemson is overrated.

Clemson is a program that is coached by a multiple championship winner. We are not. Until then, I would hold back the shite talk.

The bigger worry I would say their defense is we have absolutely no way of knowing what they'll be playing or how he'll be using them. That tends to be a decent advantage for the home team. We can look at how he has ran defenses in the past but you have no idea schematically how he's going to use his guys here until you actually have film to show it.

You do realize the game is this season correct and not last season?

What Clemson or anyone did last season really don’t matter.

The only thing that really matters is BK has a trend and it’s coming out like shite in game one and until that stops happening, I refuse to think this team is going to manhandle anyone game 1, let alone Clemson on the road.

Yes. In fact I thought I made that quite clear in the OP. Did you read it?

The point, again, is they haven’t been an elite unit in a while, last year included.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Totally valid good points.

Nuss & the OL very well might get some weird looks and they’re going to have to be ready to adjust.

This has been what I've been saying as well. When is the last time you have seen an 83rd rated overall rushing Defense have 3 first rounders, as well as 70th in total yards allowed per game. I can't recall I have.

Well, one can hope! I’ll be thrilled if we pull off any kind of win, I realize it’ll be hard to get the W.

My point is more about Clemson D being potentially way overrated and not as much about confidence we will win. Although I get that the two are clearly related.

They are also talking about Tom Allen coming in as a reason it will get better. I have my doubts on that as Tom Allen was the head coach at Indiana from 2016 to 2023 where they went 33-50. He put up an elite Defense at Penn St in 2024. They were top 10 in most Defensive stats, but they also had Abdul Carter. Ensminger put up best offense ever. Those were more about talent than coaching.

But 7 seasons is a lot more than 1 season, and he had 1 elite season, but 7 prior pretty bad seasons going 33-50, and I believe like 18-45 or something in Big 10 play.

Yes, but for some reason, teams seem to play their very best game against LSU, especially week 1.

We have a bad habit recently of making teams look like national championship contender's week 1.

So, I expect the same from Clemson this year and the rant will be melting like usual on 08/31/25.

all this angst so early in the season is a waste of time.

With roster turnover, nobody knows how their team will be.

Just play the games, then we'll all know.

This is how I feel about our defense and our ability to run the ball. Against anyone.

They remind me of Auburn in 2019. They have elite defensive line talent but you can move the ball against them as long as you can hold up in pass protection or able to run the ball to keep their pass rush at bay.

I really don't think their defense is going to be top 5 or even top 10. They have good players and are going to make good plays but there is going to be a lot of opportunities for us to make just as big of plays offensively. We just cannot make the mistakes. End every drive with a kick.

I'm of the mind he's the best DC in CFB. His work at Duke, Okie St, then OSU is impressive. I'd be happy to see just about anyone go if i was getting him.

I get that and agree that Knowles is as good as it gets right now. But Allen to Clemson was announced well before Knowles left OSU after the title game. Immediately after it was announced, I saw a lot of PSU fans saying Allen was a downgrade from his predecessor and that they weren’t necessarily sorry to see him go.

Take it for what it’s worth. And again, Allen may be two things at once here- a downgrade for Penn St at the time and an upgrade for Clemson now. I just thought it was worth noting how PSU fans though saw him and what they thought about him moving on after just one season.

It feels very much like our OL last year. They had talent across the board, but they never lived up to their hype as a unit. It was assumed they would take a big step forward last offseason and then it just didn’t happen.

Clemson’s DL could be a completely different case, but a lot of people are just ignoring those stats and just assuming they will automatically improve. Maybe so, but that’s not a given.

I think what the Original Poster is saying...is that Clemson could have a really good Defense this year....but they didn't have a really good defense last year.

And this great Defensive Line:

Clemson
2024 Total Sacks - 35 sacks in 14 games
2024 Total TFL - 6.9 per game
Parker - 11 sacks

LSU
2024 Total Sacks - 34 sacks in 13 games
2024 Total TFL - 5.2 per game
Swinson - 8.5 sacks

They might have a great collection of talent, but the numbers don't WOW you.
