Leavitt is good!

I don't know where all of the doomsday thought about Leavitt is coming from. He's easily the best QB talent we've had since Jayden Daniels, who wasn't perfect his first year- he was afraid to throw the ball. Sam has great ability to run, and his passing is improving. Tough as nails, and he's showing smarter decision-making. He has a high ceiling.
With being out most of last year and then adjusting to a new team, making mistakes early happens. But he's learning from his mistakes. His talent always gives LSU a chance to win. From what I've seen of the backups, Sam is far better. I just think he needs another year, and he'll be a top draft choice.
The interception Saturday was way too high. That happens if you're anyone but Chambliss. Sam is also under pressure more. His fumble was stupid, but I doubt he does that again. I think he's improving some on not trying to force the ball into windows which are too tight. His receivers overall are good but not great.
Love his leadership and willingness to get in the faces of his teammates if they screw up. Goodness, the guy played hurt for a few games earlier this year. He's tough. The mistakes he makes are from being aggressive- which I would prefer any day of the week. He wants to put the team on his shoulders- which is more necessary now given his supporting cast on offense.
True, LSU spent a ton of money on him, but all of the top QBs were going for that. I believe that he'll improve with decision-making. It might take another year, but he's the type who wins a title. I think he's "that guy". I think if Sam had Manning's or Mensah's or Stockton's or Sayin's supporting cast on offense, you'd see much better results. I do think he needs another year and another one in Lane's system.
Let's give him some more time. I personally enjoy watching him play. He makes a few bonehead mistakes, but then he makes a bunch of great ones. Sam does great things when a play breaks down. Makes something out of nothing when he has to go off script. Did you see Manning play Saturday?
Sam is entertaining and a winner. A true leader.

Really going on a whim there given that he's only the second starter since Jayden that didn't play due to injury to the intended starter.
EDIT: and i'm being easy on Leavitt a bit and think that if he returns next year there will be a lot of development, but we're looking at Nuss vs Leavitt at this point lol.

In this day and age of stat freaks too many people think poorly of Sam because of INT's. Unfortunately, a lot of those are tipped or deflected balls. We need receivers that win contested balls.

If Leavitt continues on the current development path, not only will he be good enough to win a NC (I wasn’t sure about that early in the year. In fact I had doubts) he will be the biggest piece of that NC puzzle.
He’s not there yet. But he’s come a long way since the beginning of the year. He is still making a couple bonehead plays a game. But the development from the pocket is very encouraging.

With a shite offensive line outside of seaton, leavitt is doing better than expected at this point. He is a different QB now than he was against Clemson.
He was injured and unable to practice all summer. He really is starting off in a new system.
He made a lot of pretty spectacular passes in the Kentucky game. He needed to get used to the speed of the sec games.
Leavitt may very well make 5 to 6 million if he stays next year. If he returns next year I think there will be a totally different team next year.
I think we all see the tremendous talent on this year's team, but there are holes and the drop of from injuries is huge
Next year using the portal again he will be bringing in more great offensive linemen. Next year many of the holes will be closed and the gap between starter and backup will be less.
It is a great time to be a tiger.

Not worth his NIL compensation!

With that said, I'm a fan of Leavitt's game and am enjoying seeing his progression as a decision maker. The INT was mainly due to Satterwhite getting pushed into his lap, not allowing him to step into the throw and drive the football which made it come out a little high. The fumble was totally on him, but it feels like every week I notice him slow down a bit more and make quicker, smarter decisions. Compare his decision making in Oxford to his decision making in Lexington and I think you'll notice 2 very different levels of composure.

There’s good, then better, then best…

I'm not sure he's the best we've had since a far ago 1st yr Nuss. In other words - he's all we got and ranked #40 in the league. The other 2 are worse.
We will live and die by him. Quit talking playoffs and reset to a 7-5 season and you will enjoy the games more.
Lane put this team together in 2 months. I don't think this is the team Lane wants and my expectation is he will make adjustments and improvements at the end of the season which will probably mean coaches too. My expectation for a playoff team has been moved to next year. IMO, Trey Dez is the only superstar on this team. I see no others. Deuce, Brown ,McKinley, Ross , Anderson and PW did not show up against UK - not superstars, but they look good against McNeese.

He is turning the ball over at a very high clip but other than that he has gotten better with each game. Nuss in '24 had a lot of turnovers but was very productive from the jump. Sam has not had the passing production that Nuss did with even more turnovers but he does more with his legs. If he can cut down the turnovers I like the development, especially finishing the year and heading into next season with a full healthy offseason.
But the turnovers is the highest outside of J. Lee in 2008 which will start to become a big problem if that cannot be solved.

3 years is not he same as 10 years.

He is a gamer. Sometimes makes bonehead mistakes (like the fumble the other night). If the oline holds up he is good. Once he starts feeling pressure in the game he starts coming off reads too early and runs. Doesnt give time for routes to develop. Can only get better not worse.
