Can someone explain to me what role the 2 dudes at the 10 yard line are playing when up 7 on the last play of the game?

To keep qb Mond from running the middle and gaining big yardage. When those two guys did not do that, Mond scrambled and kill them with big plays.

Why are we spying the QB there? Just drop back and if he scrambles rally up and make the tackle.
