And, haven't we already heard talk that 2027 is likely going to need something like $10 million more?

This is true Lane knew we were thin and he has been around Saban and knows you can truly win year 1.

shite we have examples all over of before and during this era that year 1 complete turnaround of a rotted out program won’t happen. The way to get a one year turn around is a very weak schedule and bringing your old team mostly with you. Lane had neither.

We could even look at JJ, yea we made the supers the year before but it was flukish and Paul had rotted out our program. Jay had to duct tape a pitching staff together and he took the pile of junk he inherited that had a few bright spots and got to a regional, he then had fewer holes to plug and had a championship team.

The big money boosters understand this because they are successful and understand how things are built the ones screaming 40 million and win now are losers that aren’t good in their own fields or live in their parents basement.

I would be a lot more concerned if we had what is happening to Florida happening to us.

We lost a one score game on the road to a team that our coach completely built that has the best qb in the country playing illegally, we also lost to a scrappy Kentucky team thanks to special teams, baker and Sam being a dumbass, plus the insanity of how bad the refs were. If Sam doesn’t turn it over or special teams makes a tackle then we win.

True.

But no one expected an NC. The ceiling was a playoff berth (not unobtainable since there are 12 slots).

Fans weren't pleased with Ole Miss, but got over it considering the situation and the fact that despite how abysmally LSU played, it had a chance at the end.

This Kentucky game is another story. The team looked completely lost most of the game. The defense was inept (the "holds" by the defense were aided by UK's kicker missing).

But the greatest sin was 4th and 1. A chance to seize the win and instead LSU punted - handing the game to UK. This was made worse by the fact that Stein had faced a similar choice at the end of the first half and had faith in his team to get that yard.

This game was (and is) a bitter pill.

Before the season started. There are not enough really good players in this cycle to start with and that it would be a building process. He did not promise instant gratification that we all want, and to see this team get beat last night shows us why.
As of now if anyone thinks that LSU could be on the same field with either Alabama or Georgia you are not in reality. With the upcoming schedule left to play, it looks pretty bleak at the moment,

I took that as meaning it will take time until we can compete for a national championship, not time until we can bet the likes of Kentucky. I'm sorry, but no matter how you slice it, last night was a massive fail by KIffin and his team.

Well, yeah

But those are expenses that are built in and constant, not results oriented, which is what you’re talking about when you’re making a “this isn’t what we paid for” argument when it comes to results on the field and the standings.

I’m still on the Lane Train but the team played like shite yesterday. I don’t care about the loss I care about us routinely not showing up ready to play on the road. We should’ve won by 14+ yesterday.

This excuse is thrown out the window after losing to 2 first year head coaches in the same season. Pathetic.

This is an exact post that was made during Brian Kelly’s first year.

You act like we didn’t just play a team that also has a first year head coach and spent half as much on their roster. Literally a team of players and coaches that LSU didn’t want.

This...isn't...2007. You cannot recruit the best HS players, coach them up and then reap the rewards 2 - 4 years from now. That...DOESN'T...happen...anymore. It's like I'm talking to a wall on here. That's why we hired The Portal King(tm).

Exactly, different times, different game, different expectations and timelines.

There is no time. There is only now. And the reality is: LSU paid about $150 million for 2026 that has a decent chance of being 6-6 at the end of the day.

Now, will 2027 be a little cheaper? Assuming no major buyouts? Sure. BK was a one off on this budget line (and frankly, I'm spitballing $150 million - it certainly can't be less than that, might be 10 to 20% higher because of stuff I haven't thought of/forgotten about).

But, a $120 million annual budget to go 8-4, 7-5, etc., simply isn't sustainable. The staff had a short clock. They missed on a starting QB (on paper, their choices looked good - I'll concede that). They failed to produce a SEC-quality starting offensive line. They failed in some key depth areas. Both offense and defense have played very inconsistently. Too inconsistently to make a playoff run (which, frankly, with the upheaval, chaos, expense, was the entire reason we did the 2025 shakeup).

And NOTHING has happened during this season to suggest significant improvement. Kiffin and Weis (if Weis stays another year) will HAVE to go find a starting QB or make one of the current ones into one before kickoff 2027. They will need 8 to 10 offensive linemen who can actually play against SEC defenses. Run blocking, pass blocking, the whole megillah.

They will need to replace what Whit Weeks can do with someone who can do it without being injured all the time. They will need to find/develop an edge to replace Princewill who will be in the NFL next year. Lockdown corners.

I assume that the easiest part will be to continue to find WRs and RBs who can function in their system. But, across the board, next year isn't a "development" year: it will be another big rebuild.

And every year after that because of the transfer/NIL/highest bidder era we're in now. And once you get the players, you have to put them in the best position to win. That's what we're supposedly paying this coaching staff for. A cynical person might suggest we've been taken. Scammed. Flimflammed. Bamboozled.

Lane does not control this $150 million. Lane was not in charge of the prior 7 year slide.

There are things Lane NEEDS to fix and just as equal things LSU needs to fix.

I think the reality is, Lane is here for a while so best to work and support him as best we can.

Disagree you rebuild every year these days

No you don’t if you want to win consistently at a high level.

Bama, UGA, Texas all aren’t rebuilding fully each year. The Ohio State not rebuilding fully either, neither is ND though they suck, da U isn’t fully rebuilding.

The path to being a good program again is a select 15-20 recruits, plugging major holes with the portal top guys and then having other portal pieces as kinda depth.

You aren’t going to be a championship level program having to get 50 guys from the portal every year, especially if that is rebuilding entire rooms.

We were a rotted out piece of junk by the end of last year. We had zero qbs, and wrs worth being in the sec, we had a shite oline.

Fact is UGA, Bama, Ohio State, Da U, ND all aren’t going grab 50 guys

Fair enough, but how long is TAF going to "fill in the gaps" for all these performance-oriented expenses without results?

quote:

“this isn’t what we paid for”

Which is why we needed to win in 2026. Not "yet another rebuild." There is no time, no money and, frankly, no opportunity to do a long, traditional rebuild of a program that is not even possible in the current environment. Again, it is why we threw 9 figures at "The Portal King(tm)" to fix it in 2026.

He didn't. I'm not even saying it is his fault. It is the fault of people who put the plan into motion. Are we going to fire him? No. Of course not. Is it reasonable to expect much improvement from a Lane Kiffin-led team? Kind of. Does he have a clear ceiling? Also, yes.

He is simply not up to the size of the moment he finds himself in. And he's in his 50s now. He is what he is going to be.

Then why did we hire "The Portal King(tm)"? He rebuilds every year.

Lane Kiffin does.

Nick Saban lost to ULM and Miss State with Croom in year 1

Kentucky is better than both of those teams. Is it idle we looked like unprepared arse against UK, no it isn’t but it’s year 1 and we don’t have guys fully bought in.

We are going to end up 8-4 or 9-3.

Well dont spend 50 million on a roster if u not ready to win year one. Spend a little less so the expectation isn't so high. We can't spend 50 mil every year. They were taking receivers from west Florida and letting guys from Louisiana leave.

Lane has said it multiple times the mix I described is what he believes wins in this era.

The going get 50 guys and needing a lot of them to contribute immediately isn’t successful.
