Louisiana Tech (1-0) travels to No. 11 LSU (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT in Tiger Stadium. The game will stream on SEC Network+.
LSU is currently a 32.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 55.5.
LSU opened the Lane Kiffin era with a dominant 51-10 win over Clemson, piling up 644 yards of offense.
QB Sam Leavitt accounted for 343 total yards...230 passing and 113 rushing...with three total touchdowns against Clemson. He was named SEC Player of the Week LINK.
LSU's defense held Clemson to just 10 points, with Jordan Ross providing a pick-six in the first quarter.
Louisiana Tech also opened its season with a blowout, defeating Northwestern State 80-6 in Ruston. The 80 points were the most Tech has scored since becoming a Division I program. The Bulldogs are in their first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference after moving from Conference USA.
LSU and Louisiana Tech met last season, with LSU winning 23-7; this year's matchup comes before LSU's first road game, Sept. 19 at Ole Miss.
Saturday is LSU's “Wear Purple” game.
Press Conference Tidbits:
- On WR Malik Elzy: He had a really good camp...that is how he got the start.
- Lane said it was an amazing day with Game Day, the fly-over, the celebrities, the walk down the hill, the fans...plus the team's performance...was a great day for LSU's brand.
- Talked about Louisiana Tech being a potential “rat poison” game following the big Clemson win, where kids get full of themselves after a big win, and lose focus for next game...had already talked to the team about it.
- On Dilin Jones...got the start because of his performance during camp...Wasn't a household name,...Lane made it clear he values camp performance and doesn't pay attention to stats from last year or how many stars a kid had coming out of high school.
- Complimented Phillip Wright's performance...had a good look in his eyes...says that some kids just play better under the lights than they do in practice....was very excited for him.
- Lane says he doesn't make kids wear a coat and tie before the game because he doesn't think it helps them win games...he is more concerned about the players being tough and loose...
- Said Louisiana Tech plays an unconventional defense that will require adjustments.
- Challenged the LSU fans to bring the same energy to the LA Tech game...
- Says he likes Paul Finebaum...thinks he says the things he does because it is part of his job. Takes him with a grain of salt.
- Said it was his choice to delay the game 90 minutes because it gave him an edge...
- Says he has a good relationship with Gov. Landry...he wants LSU to win...but he doesn't tell Lane how to run the program.
- He hopes the playoff committee starts placing a greater emphasis on scheduling...eg, 9-3 team might be better than an 11-1 team because the 11-1 team played soft schedule.

Big boosters referenced several times.
This is big business, and LSU is in it to win it.
Very satisfying.

Breath of fresh air. Was hard not being apathetic at points the last few years.

quote:I think the main reason CLK is such a good fit and why I believe he finds this to be the best place to coach is because all that matters to the majority of our fanbase is winning at any cost. If I were a coach that's the type of job I would look for

I've watched most of Kiffin's press conferences since becoming LSU's coach. I'm learning more and more about him, his style, philosophy, etc. And while I had already observed, knew this about Kiffin....it became abundantly evident/obvious in today's press conference:
Lane Kiffin is a bonafide genius on many levels!
Coach Kiffin is well known and regarded as a X+O "Football" genius. But underneath and above his exceptional ability to understand the technical, detailed aspects of the game of football, he's also a genius in understanding/influencing the overall "Human Psychology" involved in Winning! His communication, answers - each and every word he uses - and how he communicates - is carefully chosen to support or "manage" the many outside/inside "influences". Whether it be the media/players/team/staff/fans/donors/supporters.....all these various elements combine to actively (consciously/unconsciously) influence & effect the overarching, primary "Goal of Winning Football Games". While a gifted scientist, inventor, author, painter may escape to a lab in private to produce/create magnificent works, a head Football Coach has to publicly manage/deal with hundreds of players, coaches; thousands of other individuals involved with team operations directly/indirectly; and millions of viewers in the mainstream + social media! Most won't see or hear the inherent genius Kiffin possesses in the arena of Human Psychology, Motivation, Influence, etc. But it's blatantly obvious to the few who are aware of the underlying "science" & power it wields. And finally.....a "role" & "script" must be effectively performed/maintained for the "show" to succeed! And that requires a fabulous "Actor" which most will also not see, hear or understand is occurring.
