KPLC in LC was basically the only game in town forever but over the years they got a Fox affiliation which KPLC does all the broadcast work for and now there’s a random CBS affiliation but no local news on it. It’s very odd.

probably the result of awful reporting, horrendous journalism and piss-poor editing. The BR stations are absolute garbage. Especially the weekend crews.
And thats not even addressing the bias inherent in smaller stations. I can't imagine a worse ROI for samll businesses than advertising during a news broadcast. You'd do better sponsoring a sign at the local baseball field or school sporting event.

KLAX out of Alexandria is now owned by a media company out of Greenville, Ms. Best I can tell they basically just put the Delta News and Weather team in another room in the studio with a backdrop of Alexandria and do a pre-recorded cast for local stuff and then show whatever they have video for in house or from corporate for regional and national stories

Small market local news affiliates are a thing of the past unfortunately.
I personally think this deal is a good one, though. For most of Lafayette's existence, there's only been 2 decent local news affiliates and one upstart who tried to get into the market. It's just too small to have more than 2. Hopefully they will have actual reporters instead of those prerecorded 2 minute videos they were doing.

In Biloxi-Gulfport, WLOX has the ABC and CBS affiliation while WXXV has the Fox and NBC affiliation, WLOX will simulcast news on the ABC and CBS’s traditional news slots like at 5, 6, and 10. Same with WXXV, but at different times because WXXV can do a 9 pm news with Fox ending its prime time schedule earlier than the other big networks and it doesn’t have daytime programming to fill other day parts.
The real hot mess of affiliate consolidation has to be Lake Charles, KPLC and Gray Media has the NBC, Fox, CW, and ABC affiliations all locked up with the signals of KPLC and KVHP. While CBS is on some low power station that barely covers Lake Charles proper, but at least it is not owned by Gray and cares more about some locally produced programming like specialty shows about McNeese sports.
The ability of stations to multicast multiple stations makes this more possible.
Heck even in New Orleans, once the Nexstar/TEGNA merger is finally allowed to merge operations, Nexstar will own WGNO, WNOL, WWL, and WUPL in the New Orleans market. That is 4 full power stations under one ownership group. The FCC is mandating that WUPL has to be sold. I wonder if WGNO and WWL will merge newscasts into one broadcast on multiple signals.
