Lafayette ABC, NBC and FOX affiliates consolidate into single local news telecast

So only KLFY going it alone
Now you can see Perillo on 3 different channels.
Surprised we arent seeing this more especially in smaller markets.
Just not enough money in local news advertising to support 4 different local news telecasts.

We had the ABC and NBC affiliates in Huntsville consolidate recently.
The continued consolidation of media under the control of just a couple of massive conglomerates is not a great trend.

Lafayette local news is the perfect example of DEI killing a business.
KATC in particular. Their focus on hiring minorities and recent college grads has turned them into a second-rate news outlet.

The CBS affiliate in Lafayette (KLFY) runs circles around those which are being consolidated. Most of the channels involved in the 'merger' had significant staff cuts over the previous year. KLFY (CBS) has been my go to source for news and in particular weather for the previous decade. They rock!

I remember years ago seeing a highly intoxicated Chuck Huebner almost get his arse whipped outside City Bar in Maurice by some baw he'd been running his mouth to inside the bar. As he was being walked away by the police, everybody started chanting "TV 3! TV 3! TV 3!"

I think KATC also went the cheap route. They got fresh out of college reporters that could barely read on tv.

Townsquare Media doing this in the Lafayette/Acadiana market pretty much wrecked local radio.

that's because KADN, KATC, and KLAF are all owned by the same parent company - Gray Media. Smart move to cut the fat and save money on broadcast journalists. No need to pay 9 meteorologists when you can pay 3 to do the same job. KLFY still is king in Lafayette since the other 3 stations went woke.
