Kiffin averaged 5.6th nationally in total offense at Ole Miss over the past 6 years.

Meanwhile, Temu Kiffin over at Texas averaged 36.4th with much more resources over the past 5 seasons.

For 2 guys whose career path seems so similar to me, the difference is striking.

interestingly enough. Saban won his first natty the year he turned 52. Kiffin is currently 51.

Need to see it first.

Past success doesn’t guarantee future success. If I told you Lane’s offense had been successful at an elite level for 6 years in a row that’s about as close of a pattern of success in college football as you can get. You’d think we will at least have a serviceable offense.

A Kiffin offense is definitely fun to watch. It all starts with the QB. He had some outstanding QBs during that run. If we have what we think we have at that position, this year should be a blast to watch.

Saban was 50 when he won his first SEC Championship and 52 when he won his first National Championship. Kiffin is currently 51. If he wins the NC this season, he would be ahead of Saban in that regard.

X's and O's don't win by themselves.

Kiffin is lightyears ahead of Saban on offense. Defensively, Saban ahead by about the same margin.

You need talent to finish the deal, on both sides. And nowadays, I think offense is more important than D.

I cant wait to watch this offense but secondly i cant wait to watch this defense and how well they play under baker when they have an offense that can actually sustain drives. I think this defense feast this year

The fact that Jake Peetz goofy arse topped Sloan's offensive production is depressing yet impressive.

Shows you how inept CBK was and what a terrible AD woody was to give him that contract.

If Kelly wasn’t inept, he’d have done what the last 3 coaches had done in year 2…. But the dude couldn’t build a defense.

but most of the offense has no ties to LSU and get paid a lot.

Are you under the delusion that his offenses at Ole Miss had deep ties there?

Last season his QB, top RB, top 3 WRs, and 2 of his starting OL were ALL first year transfers at Ole Miss. Considering they finished 2nd in CFB, 1st in P4, 1st in SEC in total offense I'd say they did ok.

On the flip side, LSU only had 4 starters on offense last season who were 1st year transfers. Everyone else was either recruited out of HS by LSU, or in their 2nd or 3rd year at LSU after transferring in. They were one of the worst offenses in college football.

The game has become more professional, and players AREN'T fans. The mindset is different. They don't need some sort of romantic attachment to the school/program to perform well.

I think it’s objectively clear that the quality of play in CFB is lower than pre-NIL… for all teams.

Don’t anyone sleep on the defense, we led the SEC in INT’s, with 17 total for the year. Baker is going to always put pressure on the QB’s, having them make the mistakes.

He might gamble a little more, knowing the offense can put up the points.

When did Kiffin win an sec title?

Kiffin is an offensive genius. We all know the caliber of coach that Coach Saban is. Kiffin's offense is so good that Coach Saban hired him, had him install it, and kept it the rest of his tenure at Bama. The offense didn't change even when OCs did. "Why would we force everyone in the building to have to learn a new system when we all know our system and 1 guy can learn it." Kiffin's offense is so good it changed Saban's philosophy on how to play the game.

It will produce at LSU.

I did this a while back. Every first year of Kiffin, whether he is an OC or HC, he improved the offense drastically. That's FAU, Ole Miss, USC x2, and Bama. It will be no different here.

crazy part is that if he had that same 2022 defense with that 2023 offense, we're in the national championship game. That 2022 team was 32nd in pass defense but 118th in 2023.

It's not. The problem is lack of depth. When you can't hoard 5 stars on the bench like Bama, UGA, and Clemson did in the trenches, more teams can build rosters that can be up to snuff.

I suspect this team would disagree with that assessment

They didn't win because the HC found a bunch of underrate 5 star players. It's because he had a lot of experienced, older players who because of their experience and physical maturity were able to objectively play better than the competition.

Pre-NIL you had a handful of powers who could horde all of the blue chip prospects, leaving the other schools having to try to compete with inexperienced second tier players with no means of supplementing their roster with experienced talent. There is more parity now because the level of play has gotten better.

Clemson is a great example. Their HC refused to adapt to the post NIL/free transfer era. He choose to continue with pre-NIL method. The result is a once dominant program is getting left behind because the competition is getting better.
